Andy Halliday hits back at what Rangers fan said live on air about Motherwell

Rangers suffered another home defeat at the weekend, with Motherwell inflicting more damage to the Light Blues in what has been a dismal campaign.

Ibrox witnessed another shock result when Motherwell secured a 2-1 victory over Rangers in what was only Barry Ferguson’s second game in charge.

Jack Butland all but gifted the visitors their opening goal after spilling what appeared to be a relatively tame effort into the path of Luke Armstrong, before a counter attack saw Motherwell double their advantage on the half hour mark.

Rangers dominated the game but did little when in possession with a fresh claim made by a Light Blues supporter after the clash.

Motherwell deserve credit for performance v Rangers

While Rangers will be in the spotlight in regard to what was another poor display of their own, Motherwell deserve credit for sticking to their game plan, which ultimately saw them leave Ibrox with all three points.

However, one Rangers fan wasn’t going to award any praise to the visitors, claiming that Rangers shot themselves in the foot, with Andy Halliday immediately hitting back at his verdict.

Speaking via Clyde 1 Superscoreboard (3 March), Halliday said: “I think you’re being extremely unfair if your saying that you don’t think Motherwell played well in the game.”

Ultimately, how well a team plays is often subjective, but it is all about how well they execute their game plan.

The stats from the game may paint a different picture, but Motherwell deserved their victory, having prevented Rangers from doing much in the final third while taking their own chances when they emerged.

Rangers must turn their attention to Europa League

League success appears to be a distant fantasy at this stage, with Celtic now 16 points above the Light Blues, who have also had any chances of domestic success curtailed following their shock defeat to Queen’s Park earlier in the campaign.

It leaves the Europa League as their only remaining chance of silverware, which is highly unlikely given the level of opposition they will have to overcome in order to be successful.

With an encounter with Fenerbahce approaching, the need for a win is even greater than it was before, if for anything else than to subdue the growing concerns.
