Michael Stewart fumes at ‘terrible’ Dessers footage in Rangers v Motherwell
Michael Stewart could not resist taking a dig at Rangers star Cyriel Dessers after the loss to Motherwell on Saturday.
The Nigerian forward scored a consolation for the Gers on a dismal day at Ibrox (1 March) that saw Celtic take a 16-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
The 30-year-old had an equaliser ruled out for offside in a positive individual performance for Barry Ferguson‘s side.
However, one moment in the match has seen the exit-linked attacker become the subject of criticism after the defeat.

Dessers slammed after ‘terrible’ Rangers moment
In the ninth-minute of the contest, Dessers took a heavy touch which allowed the visitors to regain the ball deep in the Light Blues half and Luke Armstrong opened the scoring with Jack Butland not covering himself in glory.
Cammy Bell and Stewart both slammed the Nigeria international for the error, speaking on BBC Sportscene (1 March), the former said: “[Butland] takes a brilliant cross here and looks to start the attack and as it goes on, you see here, Dessers takes a terrible touch.”
Stewart later said: “The goalkeeping error is the one that obviously catches the eye but as Cammy has already pointed out there, Cyriel Dessers’ heavy touch, terrible touch.”

Rangers star Dessers can bounce back from error
Dessers has endured a tough season in Govan, with Philippe Clement preferring Hamza Igamane and Danilo over the experienced attacker before he was sacked.
That led to constant speculation during the winter transfer window but a move away from Auchenhowie did not materialise, despite interest from Italy and Spain.
Scottish Premiership | Goals | Assists |
Dessers | 11 | 2 |
The Nigerian has notched 11 goals and two assists in 26 matches so far this season, proving that he can still contribute at the highest level when he is given a chance.
His contributions will not be enough to catch Celtic, given the hefty advantage that they hold in the league table but they could help the Light Blues in their European adventures.
The Gers face a tough task against Fenerbache in the Europa League and they need Dessers to be on top form if they are to have any chance of toppling the Turkish outfit.
If they cannot and their impressive campaign in Europe comes to an end, it will be the final straw of a dismal campaign for the Govan outfit and leave Ferguson’s chance of securing the job on a permanent basis in tatters.
