Barry Ferguson handed Rangers injury boost after John Souttar update at Ibrox

Rangers have been handed an injury boost as Barry Ferguson gave an update on John Souttar after losing to Motherwell.

The centre-back has been on the sidelines on multiple occasions this season, leading to defensive changes at the Gers.

Souttar has been sidelined at Ibrox in recent matches as the Light Blues have made a managerial change after sacking Philippe Clement.

Barry Ferguson was unable to count on the Scotland international as the Bears lost 2-1 to Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday (1 March), and they seemingly can’t wait for the defender’s return.

Souttar will return for Rangers clash v Fenerbahce

Souttar will be available for the Glaswegian outfit as they face Fenerbahce in the Europa League, Ferguson shares.

The Gers manager revealed via Joshua Barrie on X (1 March) that the centre-back would return for the Light Blues against Jose Mourinho’s team at the Ulker Stadium on Thursday (6 March).

Robin Propper has struggled at Ibrox this season, and the Dutch defender seemingly can’t be relied upon in the big game.

James Tavernier played as a makeshift centre-back against Stuart Kettlewell’s team, but whether he will start in Turkey remains to be seen.

Ferguson has easy call to make with Souttar against Fenerbahce

Clinton Nsiala seems to be done at Rangers after he was hauled off in the first half against Kilmarnock and remained on the bench in the Motherwell loss.

It looks like Ferguson doesn’t have faith in the French youngster, which will only lead to more issues at the Gers.

Leon Balogun returned to action after the break as the Light Blues found themselves two goals down after the first half against the Steelmen.

The Nigerian defender had become a key player for Clement before picking up an injury, essentially derailing the Belgian manager’s season.

Propper and Nsiala had been the go-to partnership at the Glaswegian outfit for several weeks before the change in head coach.

Ferguson has made some big calls during matches already, being proactive with substitutions when things are going against the Bears.

The interim boss has now seen the precarity in the Gers’ backline first-hand, arguably leading to changes in the upcoming fixtures.

Souttar and Balogun should be the starting centre-backs against Fenerbahce, even if they aren’t fully fit, as the Light Blues look to salvage their season in the Europa League.
