Rangers v Motherwell moment ‘Horrendous’ after what was seen at Ibrox

Rangers lost 2-1 to Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership, with one moment in the game branded “horrendous” on BBC Sportsound.

The Gers welcomed Stuart Kettlewell’s team to Ibrox on Saturday (1 March), and the visitors took the three points back home.

Barry Ferguson’s team conceded twice against Motherwell in the first half as the interim boss looked for the Light Blues to make another comeback.

Cyriel Dessers may have given the Gers icon some hope in the dugout after his goal in the 54th minute, but the Glaswegian outfit were unable to salvage anything from the game.

Ellery Balcombe gifts Rangers goal v Motherwell

Ian McCall slammed Motherwell goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe for his mistake against the Bears.

The BBC pundit wasn’t pleased with the shot-stopper after Dessers was able to find the back of the net with ease.

McCall felt Balcombe gifted the Light Blues the goal, although the hosts could not make much of it.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound (1 March), the Scotsman said: “A horrendous mistake. Dessers has finished it well. But if Balcome just stands up, it’s just going to help. It’s right down the centre of the goal. Exactly what Rangers needed, and it was gift-wrapped and handed on a plate.”

Dessers goal makes no difference v Motherwell

Dessers was poor overall for Rangers despite his goal and having one strike ruled out for offside towards the end of the game.

After some impressive displays during Philippe Clement’s final weeks in charge, the Nigerian striker has gotten back into the starting lineup.

Dessers was instrumental in the 4-2 win against Kilmarnock on 26 February, but the 30-year-old has again shown he can’t be relied upon.

While the former Cremonese forward’s numbers have been decent this season, his work rate and determination leave a lot to be desired at times.

Ferguson hauled off Hamza Igamane at half-time, and maybe that’s where the manager made the wrong call.

The Moroccan youngster has seen a dip in his form, but the interim boss must show confidence and faith in him.

Ferguson doesn’t seem to trust the youngsters at Ibrox after his treatment of Clinton Nsiala in the last two fixtures, substituting the defender after 30 minutes against Kilmarnock and dropping him to the bench in the Motherwell loss.

The Gers icon will have another tough test against Fenerbahce on 6 March, and failure in the Europa League will put immense pressure on the board to make drastic changes soon at Ibrox..
