Rangers v Motherwell: BBC pundit stunned after what happened – ‘Unbelievable’

Rangers played Motherwell at Ibrox on Saturday and Leanne Crichton was stunned after what happened in the first half.

Gers started the game slowly and paid the price for it with Luke Armstrong opening the scoring for the visitors.

Things got worse for the hosts as Tom Sparrow doubled their lead to send Motherwell into the break with a 2-0 lead and they managed to score just one in the second, losing 2-1.

Barry Ferguson needed to have an important half-time team talk with the Rangers players

The hosts did not seem to get out of second gear and complacency is what costed them big time.

Looking at how the defence folded, Crichton, who was on BBC Scotland, expressed her astonishment.

She said at 3:34pm on 1 March: “What an unbelievable scoreline.”

While she was being hyperbolic at the time, it was a scoreline that was merited given how badly Rangers started the half.

They did end it on a slightly positive note, but still failed to find the back of the net with all that possession and those chances created.

Gers need new defenders in the summer transfer window

This sort of defending should not be stunning as not only did it happen in Ferguson’s first game in charge, it’s been a pattern for a while.

Looking at the lineup itself, it was clear that he had made a major blunder and that just was proven with the wretched first-half display.

Being down 2-0 at home to Motherwell is not acceptable under any manager and the plans have to look at themselves in the mirror.

This is far from the new-manager bounce fans expected from Ferguson and even though he’s not known for his managerial exploits, the players need to show they are fighting for the new manager.

It’s also evident that the club desperately need two quality defenders in the summer transfer window.

One of them needs to be a centre-back and the other one a full-back as the club look to be in disarray at the back.
