Rangers star blasted live on BBC after what was seen v Motherwell – ‘Awful’

Cyriel Dessers was blasted for an awful moment as Rangers conceded early on against Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.

Ibrox welcomed Stuart Kettlewell’s team on 1 March, with the visitors taking the lead in the ninth minute through Luke Armstrong.

Jack Butland let Barry Ferguson down, as the goalkeeper could have arguably done better to avoid conceding after a rather tame effort from the Steelmen’s striker.

While the shot-stopper didn’t cover himself in glory, Dessers was on the receiving end of criticism for his role in conceding the goal.

Dessers awful for Rangers in buildup to Motherwell goal

Ian McCall blasts Dessers for his awful touch in the buildup to Mohterwell’s first goal.

The BBC pundit wasn’t pleased with the Nigerian striker for giving the ball away to the Steelmed before they scored.

McCall also feels Butland could have done better as the Light Blues found themselves behind for the second consecutive game.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound (1 March), the ex-Gers midfielder said: “Just awful from Dessers. Really poor touch. It looked to me that Butland has got to do a whole lot better. He’s just got to hold on to that. There’s no great pace in the shot. It’s not really down the side of him. Just an awful goal to lose.”

Ferguson faces disappointment at Ibrox

Ferguson found Rangers two goals behind once again in his second game in charge after Tom Sparrow doubled Motherwell’s lead in the 30th minute.

Dessers scored early on after the break, but the match ended in a 2-1 defeat for the hosts.

The Gers trailed by two and needed a comeback against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, and the interim boss was able to lead his team to a 4-2 win.

While Celtic are leading the Scottish Premiership by a considerable lead and the Light Blues don’t have a realistic shot at winning the league title, they need to put in better performances.

The Ibrox faithful aren’t expecting much from Ferguson, but the players must show pride and play for the badge until the end of the season.

With the Europa League round of 16 fixture against Fenerbahce on the horizon, the Bears need to prove to the fans that they can do something in the competition.

There are several injury issues in the backline, but playing James Tavernier at centre-back at Ibrox when Clinton Nsiala was available was arguably the wrong call.

The French centre-back was poor against Kilmarnock and seemingly needed a hand around his shoulders rather than being dropped.

Jose Mourinho’s team will relish going up against the Glaswegian outfit on 6 March if they put in a similar display.
