Jack Butland destroyed after ‘horrendous’ Rangers incident v Motherwell
Jack Butland has been destroyed as Rangers crashed to an embarrassing 2-1 defeat against Motherwell on Saturday.
Butland was at the heart of yet another blunder at Ibrox, following similar mistakes against the likes of Manchester United earlier in the season.
After costing Barry Ferguson early on, Kenny Macintyre could not believe his eyes at footage from Ibrox reached the BBC Sportsound studio.

Butland slammed after role in Motherwell opener
Rangers fans have been crying out for change for months now, but nothing appears to have happened after Philippe Clement was eventually sacked at Ibrox.
Ferguson has taken over the Rangers hotseat and despite a comeback in the win against Kilmarnock in his first game, it was the same-old rubbish against Motherwell.
Game | Competition | Result |
Rangers v Motherwell | Scottish Premiership | 1-2 |
Kilmarnock v Rangers | Scottish Premiership | 2-4 |
Rangers v St Mirren | Scottish Premiership | 0-2 |
Hearts v Rangers | Scottish Premiership | 1-3 |
Rangers v Queen’s Park | Scottish Cup | 0-1 |
Butland failed to gather a weak shot straight at him in the first half, allowing Luke Armstrong to tap home, with the offside flag cancelled out by VAR.
Speaking live on BBC Radio Scotland (1 March, 15:12), Macintyre could not believe it.
“It’s a horrendous mistake by Jack Butland,” he said. “Jack Butland, what on earth are you doing there.”

Rangers need to up their game before Fenerbahce
The end of the 2024/25 season likely can’t come quick enough for all those involved with Rangers.
Whether that be the fans or even people such as Patrick Stewart, everyone involved with the Ibrox outfit will want to wipe this season from their memories.
Not only do they have a massive deficit to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership but they’ve also been knocked out of the Scottish Cup after a shocking 1-0 defeat to Queen’s Park.
Indeed, they are still in the Europa League but with the way things have been going, it feels unlikely that they’ll even be able to make it past Fenerbahce, never mind enter the latter stages of the competition.
Ferguson was tasked with fixing a sinking ship and while fans might have had some hope after their comeback against Killie, all that hope has likely been shattered again today.
Only time will tell what the future holds but at the moment, the future of the Gers has a massive question mark hovering over it.
