Jack Butland awful in 2/10, Diomande shines — Rangers players ratings v Motherwell

Barry Ferguson took charge of his second game as interim manager as Rangers faced Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.

Ferguson made one change at Ibrox, with Clinton Nsiala dropping to the bench for Ridvan Yilmaz against Stuart Kettlewell’s team on Saturday (1 March).

The Light Blues went two goals behind in the opening 45 minutes after goals from Luke Armstrong and Tom Sparrow, as Jack Butland had a game to forget at Ibrox.

Cyriel Dessers got one back in the 54th minute,

Here, Ibrox News have given their players ratings for the fixture:

Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland hangs his head in shame.

Rangers player ratings v Motherwell

Jack Butland – 2

Butland’s horrendous error allowed the visitors to score their first goal. The shot-stopper couldn’t do much about the second and had nothing much to do after the break.

Ridvan Yilmaz (substituted in the 84th minute for Dujon Sterling) – 5

Yilmaz got on the ball often and tried to create something with his forward passes. The Turkish national was also defensively solid on most occasions.

James Tavernier – 6

Tavernier played out of position at centre-back, and the captain was one of the few players calm on the ball in his 500th appearance for the Gers.

Robin Propper (substituted at half-time for Leon Balogun) – 3

Propper was part of the defence that conceded two goals in the first half and was subsequently taken off at half-time.

Jefte – 3

Jefte was poor as Motherwell’s goal came down his side, and his defensive frailties overshadowed his attacking contribution in the game.

Nicolas Raskin – 6

Raskin was solid in the middle of the park, breaking down opposition attacks. But the midfielder could have better shielded his backline in the first half.

Diomande stands out at Ibrox v Motherwell

Mohamed Diomande (substituted in the 74th minute for Danilo) – 7

Diomade kept Rangers ticking in midfield with his contributions in the final third and defensively. The Ivorian ace was one of the most creative outlets for the hosts against the Steelmen. Ferguson surprisingly took him off in the 74th minute.

Vaclav Cerny – 0

Cerny was quiet for most of the fixture and seemed to be missing his shooting boots and failed to have the impact he has usually had this season.

Ianis Hagi (substituted at half-time for Nedim Bajrami) – 4

Hagi consistently tried to play the ball into the opposition box but hardly found his teammates as the Light Blues struggled to create chances in the first half. The Romanian star was substituted at half-time after failing to do much.

Cyriel Dessers – 6

Dessers’ touch in the lead-up to the Light Blues conceding their first goal was awful. The Nigerian striker did score just after the break but was poor overall. While the forward did think he had equalised in the 80th minute, it was ruled offside.

Hamza Igamane (substituted at half-time for Tom Lawrence) – 5

Igamane has been going through a tough spell and continued to struggle in the first half at Ibrox before Ferguson replaced him at the break.

Substitutes:

Leon Balogun – 7

Balogun solidified the Bears’ defence after replacing Propper. The Nigerian defender didn’t give the opposition attackers any room to breathe, winning every challenge.

Nedim Bajrami – 5

Bajrami tried to make things happen but had a hard time doing so.

Tom Lawrence – 4

Lawrence came on at the break but was wasteful in possession.

Danilo – 4

Danilo had the opportunity to impact the game but failed to take the chance.

Dujon Sterling – N/A
