Vaclav Cerny transfer: Rangers ‘reluctance’ emerges over deal at Ibrox

Vaclav Cerny has been one of the best players at Rangers this season, but they will need to spend a hefty sum to seal a permanent transfer.

The Czech international signed for the Gers on loan from Wolfsburg last summer and has been one of their best players this season, emerging as one of their leading goalscorers.

Cerny could cost £6.75million at Ibrox, and it remains to be seen whether the Light Blues will want to spend that much in the coming months despite his brilliant displays.

The 27-year-old got on the scoresheet again as the Light Blues beat Kilmarnock 4-2 at Rugby Park on Wednesday (26 February).

Rangers to pay significant sum for Cerny transfer

Gordon Dalziel is undecided over Cerny’s permanent transfer to the Bears.

The ex-Gers ace has expressed reluctance to spend a significant sum on signing the 27-year-old from Wolfsburg.

Dalziel is on the fence about the forward’s transfer as the Glaswegian outfit would have to spend £7m and his wages.

Speaking on Open Goal (27 February), the 62-year-old said: “I’m a bit on the fence with that. It’s not just the £7m, it’s what the wages bring as well. So it’s a full package. Wages, £7m and everything to go with it.”

Ibrox chief should spend big on Cerny

Cerny has been effective at Rangers in the current campaign, and it would be prudent of the hierarchy to pursue a deal if possible.

The 49ers are in talks to take control at Ibrox, and that could mean potentially more funds being available for transfers next summer.

Philippe Clement endured a poor season at the Light Blues and was eventually sacked after losing to St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.

Barry Ferguson has taken interim charge of the Bears, and it would be surprising to see the Gers icon continue in the dugout beyond this season.

With the possible arrival of a new manager, there’s uncertainty around who will stay and leave Ibrox in the coming months.

The new head coach may not fancy a player like Cerny in his squad, and that could be the end of the Czech international at the Glaswegian outfit.

Nils Koppen must change the recruitment system at the Light Blues after most signings have disappointed in recent years.

Cerny may have convinced the Bears to splash the cash on him, and the Ibrox faithful would undoubtedly want the forward to continue if the team have any ambition of competing with Celtic.
