Rangers ‘catastrophe’ emerges as Martin O’Neill makes Celtic admission

Martin O’Neill has made a catastrophic admission about Rangers as they have given Celtic a possible boost after what has happened this season.

Philippe Clement was sacked at Ibrox after what has been a poor season for the Glaswegian outfit.

The loss to St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership was the final straw for the Light Blues’ hierarchy, with Barry Ferguson now the interim head coach.

With the Gers’ prospects domestically looking bleak, it could get worse as their Old Firm rivals could profit from the misery.

Celtic eye another trophy after Rangers elimination

Celtic could be on course to win another trophy this season after the Bears were eliminated from the Scottish Cup, O’Neil says.

The former Hoops boss believes the Light Blues have paved the way for Brendan Rodgers’ team to win more titles after losing to Queen’s Park at Ibrox on 9 February.

O’Neill feels the Gers’ elimination was catastrophic as they have made things easier for their rivals in the current campaign.

Speaking to SportsBoom (24 February), the 72-year-old said: “Domestically, Celtic have been very strong, and you know, Rangers going out of the Scottish Cup as well, that’s catastrophic for them.

“With their major rivals out of that competition, well, it’s really made Celtic’s life a lot easier and paves the way [to another trophy].”

“That’s really catastrophic for them and, of course, what it does do for Celtic — with them holding a big lead in the SPL — is give them so much confidence for the rest of the season.”

Barry Ferguson to change things around at Ibrox

With Ferguson being appointed at Rangers to replace Clement, it will be interesting to see what he doesn’t on a short-term basis.

The interim boss has until the end of the season to steady the ship at the Glaswegian outfit and will be expected to up the standards.

Ferguson could potentially make big changes at Ibrox and will arguably ensure the current players know what it means to represent the club.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Bears experience a new manager bounce and get better results in the coming weeks.

While the Bears don’t have much to play for domestically, being 13 points behind Celtic, they are still alive in the Europa League.

The Gers will face Fenerbahce in the European competition’s round of 16, and the fans hope to get the best of the Turkish outfit.

Jose Mourinho is a fiery character on the sidelines, but Ferguson will arguably know how to deal with the Portuguese manager, having captained the Light Blues for several years.
