Derek McInnes ‘could be next Rangers manager’ after Barry Ferguson at Ibrox
Rangers may discuss potentially appointing Derek McInnes as their next manager after Barry Ferguson, according to an Ibrox icon.
Patrick Stewart finally sacked Philippe Clement after the Gers lost to 2-0 St Mirren at home in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday (22 February).
Ferguson has been handed interim charge at Ibrox, but it would be surprising to see the former midfielder be the manager beyond this season.
The Light Blues will have some important decisions to make in the coming months, and McInnes could be part of the discussions.

Ally McCoist expects McInnes conversation at Rangers
Ally McCoist expects the Glaswegian outfit to consider McInnes, 53, for the managerial role in the summer.
The Gers icon believes the Kilmarnock boss deserves to be in the running to become the Bears’ next head coach.

McCoist has no doubt that McInnes’ name will be ringing at Ibrox if they start looking for a new manager in the coming months.
Speaking on talkSPORT (25 February, 6:44), the Scotsman said: “[McInnes] is a fine manager, an absolutely fine manager. Nothing but total respect for him, and he has done a great job wherever he has been. If it had not been just for 15 games, I think he would have come into consideration.
“But you never know if, at the end of the 15 games, I think Derek’s name would still get mentioned for the job. I don’t think there’s any doubt because he deserves to be talked about. He absolutely deserves to be spoken about.”

McInnes doesn’t excite the Ibrox crowd
Rangers will want a bigger name than McInnes in their dugout if they were to part ways with Ferguson at the end of the campaign.
The current interim boss is accompanied by Billy Dodds, Allan McGregor and Neil McCann in in the dugout, making for an evidently compelling backroom staff.
Funnily enough, Ferguson will take charge of his first game against McInnes at Rugby Park on Wednesday (26 February) in what could potentially be an audition for both of them.
While the 47-year-old is unlikely to stay at the Gers beyond this season, a strong end to the campaign could see him remain in charge.
The Light Blues have been crying out for stability over the years and Ferguson seems to have gotten the job to get the Ibrox faithful back on side.
Supporters had fallen out of love with Clement’s football, and protests against the management had been staged when the Belgian head coach was still in charge.
With the Europa League still to play for, the Bears’ hierarchy recognised that they needed to appease the fans, and Ferguson looks like the perfect short-term replacement.
Who will be in charge of the Glaswegian outfit in the long term remains to be seen.
