Rangers manager appointment: Jorg Albertz reacts as club release statement
Jorg Albertz and Michael Mols have reacted to Rangers announcing Barry Ferguson as their new manager.
The Gers have been in poor form since the start of the season, with the Ibrox outfit currently 13 points adrift of first-placed Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
This run of poor form eventually led to Philippe Clement getting sacked from his role, with the Gers’ 2-0 defeat against St Mirren on Saturday the final straw.
Just last week, Patrick Stewart was adamant that sticking by the Belgian was the correct thing to do with the Govan-based outfit’s Europa League run due to kick-off once again.
Clement’s dismissal has felt like a long time coming, and even though the hiring of Ferguson and other Ibrox legends was a surprising one, that hasn’t stopped Albertz and Mols from reacting to their appointments.

Albertz and Mols laud Ferguson appointment
The former Ibrox legends both sent a message to Ferguson after his appointment as Rangers boss.
Rangers took to their official Instagram account (24 February) and shared that Ferguson, Billy Dodds and Neil McCann would form their new coaching staff until the end of the season.
Team | Position | Points |
Celtic | 1st | 69 |
Rangers | 2nd | 56 |
Aberdeen | 3rd | 41 |
Dundee United | 4th | 37 |
Albertz commented the following: “All the best Barry, if you need anyone for teaching free kicks let me know.
“I let Lorenzo Amoruso know then, good luck.”
Mols shared a similar message of support, which said: “All the best captain Barry and good luck with your football.”
Rangers needed something new at Ibrox
Even though there was the odd occasion here and there when Clement would pull a massive performance from out of nowhere, the inconsistency he brought to Rangers wasn’t good enough.
While the Gers managed to get themselves to peak performance in their Europa League games, against teams such as St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership, they fell apart.
While Ferguson might not have been the number-one choice on most fans’ lists, the fact that Patrick Stewart and Co. acted quickly shows that they’re trying to turn around Rangers’ fortunes as soon as possible.
Because, at the end of the day, the fact that the Gers were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Queen’s Park is nothing short of a travesty, especially since that was the last competition they could realistically win.
The 2024/25 season has thrown a lot of things in the way of Rangers, but with Ferguson and other Ibrox legends now at the helm, it could end up being a turning point in their season.
