Rangers board ready Russell Martin approach after Philippe Clement sack
Rangers are ready to make an approach for Russell Martin after sacking Philippe Clement at Ibrox.
The Gers parted ways with the Belgian manager after losing to St Mirren at home in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday (22 February).
Patrick Stewart and the Light Blues’ hierarchy have now finally decided to dismiss Clement at Ibrox after enduring a difficult season.
The former Southampton manager is now on the Bears’ radar as they look to replace the 50-year-old head coach immediately.

Martin serious contender to be new Rangers manager
Martin has been identified as a serious contender to be appointed at the Glaswegian outfit, according to The Scottish Sun.
The news outlet reports (23 February) that influential figures in the boardroom have set their sights on the former Southampton manager.
It has been claimed that senior boardroom members involved in the ongoing takeover talks with the 49ers Enterprises at Ibrox see the 39-year-old head coach as a favourable option.

Martin was most recently at the Saints and was fired after a poor record with them in the Premier League and it remains to be seen whether Rangers will make a concrete approach in the coming days.
Clement replacement needs to be right at Ibrox
Clement’s sacking at Ibrox was inevitable after what has been one of their most underwhelming seasons.
The Belgian manager was arguably lucky to survive the sack earlier in the season, and there were several points where fans wanted him gone.
Fans held protests at home recently to express their discontent with the Gers’ management, putting pressure on the board to make a decision.
Stewart stuck with Clement and backed him despite the damaging loss to Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup.
Losing to St Mirren was the straw that broke the camel’s back, and the hierarchy have made the right call to dismiss the former Monaco boss.
Martin’s recent record at Southampton doesn’t reflect well on him as they were left in a difficult position by him and look set to drop down to the Championship.
The former Scotland international caught many people’s attention with the work he did at Swansea and during his first season with the Saints.
It will be interesting to see whether the Light Blues will make a push for the 39-year-old soon.
