Barry Ferguson to meet Rangers in huge new manager development at Ibrox

Barry Ferguson could be in line to take over at Rangers as early as Monday after new developments emerged directly from Ibrox.

Philippe Clement was sacked on Sunday following the 2-0 defeat against St Mirren at Ibrox the day before, only weeks after the shocking Queen’s Park saga.

Issame Charai has taken training at Auchenhowie on Monday, but could soon be joined in a new-look management team.

Ferguson to meet Rangers board

In a huge update, Jim White has shared that Ferguson will meet with Rangers for talks over the vacant managerial position at Ibrox.

The talkSPORT host shared that it would be a role until the end of the season for the 47-year-old to steady the ship after the departure of Clement and his senior staff.

White wrote on X: “My understanding is ex-Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson will meet with the club today to discuss taking job as manager for rest of the season following departure of Philippe Clement.”

Rangers to appoint new manager

Patrick Stewart has certainly taken the sensible route here, finally giving in to the immense pressure to sack Clement, who unfortunately proved himself hopeless at the end.

Despite being told to his face several times that Rangers fans didn’t want him there or that he wasn’t good enough for the role, Clement tried to soldier on at Ibrox.

It was never going to work, and Stewart finally saw that.

With Rangers sitting 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, out of both domestic cup competitions and only having the Europa League, there is no need to rush an appointment.

Instead, now is the perfect time to bring someone like Ferguson in, who knows exactly what it means to play and win for Rangers from his sparkling playing career.

This squad requires serious questions too, and the players cannot be allowed an easy ride just because Clement was sacked, their form has been shocking too and they must take some blame.

Ferguson won’t be afraid to release some home truths, and hopefully, that can bring the best out of this squad before a new manager, along with new ownership and signings come through the door at Ibrox.
