Ally McCoist in stitches after what sleepless Rangers fan asked on talkSPORT

Ally McCoist appears to have lost all hope in Rangers as a question from a sleep-deprived fan on talkSPORT left him in stitches.

There was an air of positivity around Ibrox last week after it emerged that a consortium led by Paraag Marathe of 49ers Enterprises was in advanced talks over a takeover.

However, the optimism quickly disappeared after Rangers lost 2-0 against St. Mirren at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, 22 February.

The result left the decision-makers in Govan with no choice but to pull the plug on Philippe Clement as they confirmed his departure just over 24 hours after the game on Sunday, 23 February.

McCoist hopeless as Jeff Stelling makes jibe

With a lot going on at Rangers, they were obviously a topic of discussion on the talkSPORT Breakfast show on Monday (24 February) morning, and one fan asked McCoist to give some sort of good news about the Premiership heavyweights so that they could go to sleep after a night shift.

Like every Rangers fan, McCoist had no piece of good news to give to the fan and resorted to laughing uncontrollably instead, saying (6:21 am): “I’ve got bad news, you’re going to be tossing and turning for the next four hours because I have got nothing good news to say at the moment to you, my friend, I’m afraid.”

Jeff Stelling, meanwhile, aimed a dig at Rangers by pointing out that the fact that the season is three-quarters done is itself good news for them.

“Look, two pieces of good news”, the talkSPORT pundit said. “You’re still in the Europa League and the season is 3/4 over, definitely good news.”

Rangers to hire caretaker manager after Clement sack

It remains to be seen who will be in charge of the Light Blues when they lock horns with Kilmarnock away from home in the Premiership on Wednesday, 26 February.

Barry Ferguson has emerged as an early favourite to take the reins at Ibrox until the end of the season, while Neil McCann and Kevin Thomson are also under consideration.

Meanwhile, Issame Charai, who arrived in Glasgow as Clement’s assistant last month, will take the role of the ad-interim coach, with the Belgian-Moroccan tasked with overseeing the training session on Monday.
