Rangers players told Philippe Clement sack news in announcement update
Philippe Clement has been relieved of his duties as the Rangers manager in the aftermath of the 2-0 defeat against St. Mirren on Saturday.
Second-half goals from Mikael Mandron and Toyosi Olusanya saw Rangers lose to St. Mirren at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership on 22 February – the same day that table-toppers Celtic succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Hibernian.
The result that brought an end to the Light Blues’ five-game winning streak in the Premiership raised questions over Clement’s future in Glasgow again, although Patrick Stewart had extended his support towards the Belgian earlier in the week.
Stewart and the other decision-makers in Govan have been left with no choice but to sack the 50-year-old after the demoralising defeat that resulted in unrest from the home fans on Saturday.

Rangers inform players of Clement sack after board meeting
Rangers have sacked Clement after a board meeting on Sunday (23 February) afternoon, according to Chris Jack.
The reliable Rangers Review journalist reported via his personal X account on Sunday that the players have already been informed of the former Monaco manager’s exit.
All that is left is for the Premiership heavyweights to officially confirm Clement’s departure and that is expected to follow shortly.

Interim manager in charge v Kilmarnock
This means Rangers are likely to have an interim manager in place for their Scottish Premiership trip to Kilmarnock on Wednesday, 26 February.
The hunt for a permanent replacement for Clement will also be certainly underway behind the scenes at Ibrox.
Competition | Rangers |
Scottish Premiership | Second (13 points behind Celtic after 27 games) |
UEFA Europa League | Round of 16 (Face Fenerbahce in March) |
Scottish Cup | Knocked out by Queen’s Park in fifth round |
Scottish League Cup | Lost on penalties v Celtic in final |
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen how much Rangers are paying Clement in compensation after sacking him.
The Record reported via their website on Sunday that the package is expected to be more than the initially reported sum of £1.2million.
Nevertheless, Clement’s one-and-a-half-year spell at Ibrox has come to an end.
