‘Rangers P45 and golden handshake imminent for Philippe Clement’
Rangers could be preparing to pull the sack trigger on Philippe Clement after the defeat against St Mirren on Saturday.
The Gers fell to an uninspiring 2-0 loss against the Saints with Mikael Mandron and Toyosi Olusanya scoring the goals to secure three points.
This could ultimately prove to be the straw that broke the camel’s back for the Belgian head coach who has struggled all season but has come under additional pressure after the Scottish Cup defeat to Queens Park.
With Europa League commitments coming up, the Light Blues need to decide if they want to make the change and if they do, the P45 has to be ready to be handed out.
Kris Boyd urges Rangers to sack Philippe Clement
It is safe to say, there is little to no support remaining for the ex-Monaco manager who has ultimately backed himself into a corner.
There has been little progress made and the gap to Celtic is one that continues to grow further and further every week.
Despite the successes of Brendan Rodgers’ side, there has been no resistance from the Govan club against the Hoops.
Position | Team | Games played | Goal difference | Points |
1 | Celtic | 27 | +63 | 69 |
2 | Rangers | 27 | +32 | 56 |
As a result, it is little surprise that Clement has been criticised for failing to get the best out of his players and that sentiment has been backed by former striker Boyd.
Speaking on Sky Sports (23 February), the pundit shared his belief that the 50-year-old is done at Ibrox after the most recent defeat to St Mirren.
He said: “Players have to shoulder some responsibility for the performance on the pitch. But they just looked devoid of confidence, ideas or a structure of play. The manager just seems to be an energy-zapper.
“The energy has gone from the stands, it’s gone from the players on the pitch and even looking at the staff sometimes there’s no vibe of ‘I’m at Rangers and I’m proud to be there’. It’s just going through the motions.
“You need a leader, you need somebody at the top. It’s now reached as low as it can possibly get. You look and the stands are empty. We are used to Philippe Clement coming out with excuses but he looked defeated on Saturday night.
“You feel as if it’s time up. You’re going to have to pay off Clement anyway. It needs to be done now. This has been on the decline for months. There is no style of play. You actually fancied St Mirren to go there and win. It can’t get any worse. Clement has got to go now. I don’t think it can continue.”
Rangers must end Philippe Clement spell at Ibrox
The Light Blues might have secured memorable wins against Nice and Celtic this season but these moments have been few and far between.
It feels that for many fans, the situation in Govan is becoming more humiliating by the week and is showing no sign of getting any better.

There is nothing left to play for domestically and it feels highly unlikely that the Gers are going win the Europa League.
This could give the hierarchy in G51 the perfect opportunity to make a change with little expectation for this campaign with the hope of improvement next year.
