Rangers in seven-figure talks to sack Philippe Clement in huge Ibrox twist
Philippe Clement is on the brink of being sacked as the Rangers manager after the 2-0 defeat against St. Mirren on Saturday.
Clement managed to cling on to his job in Glasgow for months despite underwhelming results on all fronts, but losing in front of the fans at Ibrox on a day when Celtic succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Hibernian appears to be the final nail in the coffin for him.
Rangers chiefs are on the verge of sacking Clement after the result on 22 February, with an interim manager lined up for the Scottish Premiership trip to Kilmarnock on Wednesday, 26 February.
With the bombshell news emerging out of Govan on Sunday evening, more details of the sack are starting to come to light.
Philippe Clement exit package over £1.2million
The details of Clement’s exit are being ironed out behind the scenes at Ibrox, with the package that he will receive expected to be more than the initially reported £1.2million, according to the Record.
The newspaper reported via their website on Sunday that Clement is “inching closer” to the exit door at Rangers, with talks over a departure well underway.
This comes just days after Patrick Stewart extended his support towards the 50-year-old. The Gers CEO had insisted that the club would stick with the manager.
Rangers line up interim manager
Nevertheless, Rangers are expected to announce Clement’s sacking imminently, with a caretaker manager tipped to be in charge of the team when they lock horns with Kilmarnock on Wednesday.
It remains to be seen who will be tasked with taking charge of the first-team squad on a temporary basis, while the hunt for a new permanent manager is certain to be underway already.

The fans’ spirits were on a high after it emerged that 49ers Enterprises are in talks over buying the club, with Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe at the forefront.
However, the Ibrox decision-makers are left with no choice but to pull the plug on Clement after the demoralising 2-0 defeat against St. Mirren at Ibrox.
