Dessers reveals who Rangers are letting down amid Philippe Clement sack talk

Cyriel Dessers has addressed who is being let down by Rangers’ underperforming side amid Philippe Clement sack calls.

Clement’s men were subjected to a 2-0 defeat by St Mirren at Ibrox on Saturday (22 February) on another day to forget for the Light Blues this season.

This result leaves the Gers 13 points off Celtic at the top of the table, with questions circling over the future of Clement.

Dessers apologises to Rangers supporters

Supporters at Ibrox have not been quiet about their feelings this term with a number of protests already about the state the Light Blues find themselves in.

As well as failing to compete with their arch-rivals at the top end of the Scottish Premiership, the Gers are now out of the Scottish Cup having been beaten by Scottish Championship side Queen’s Park, leaving the Europa League as the only thing left to play for.

Although there is clearly talent within some of the players in Light Blue, it seems as though the current manager is unable to unlock this on a regular basis which is leading to disappointing results being delivered.

Rangers v Union Saint-Gilloise (Europa League)2-1
Rangers v Ross County (Scottish Premiership)4-0
Rangers v Queen’s Park (Scottish Cup)0-1
Hearts v Rangers (Scottish Premiership)1-3
Rangers v St Mirren (Scottish Premiership)0-2
Rangers’ last five games in all competitions.

When asked after the defeat to St Mirren if the squad are letting Clement down, Dessers admitted to the Daily Record: “I don’t think so. Nobody has this in our mind. We are letting ourselves down, we are letting the club down, we are letting the fans down. As we have said a few times in the last months, we need big performances, we need to straighten our back so we don’t have to apologise to the fans any more for these performances.

“Seeing fans leave early hurts. But I can understand it. The last home game was a very tough one, we bounced back against Hearts and wanted to bounce back again against St Mirren. To give the fans something. Clearly we didn’t so there’s an understanding for that situation. It’s time for us to stick together and hopefully we don’t need to make these apologies any more in the near future.”

Clement walking a fine line at Rangers

What is staggering about the Gers this term is just how inconsistent their form and results are and this has probably saved Clement from getting the sack at times.

However, where the Light Blues find themselves simply isn’t good enough and the results being delivered are too often, well below where they should be.

Dessers‘ comments seem to suggest that the players have let down everyone at the club, other than their manager which certainly sends out a message that there could be a problem there.

If that is the case with there being internal issues, it would be unlikely to see levels improving any time soon with players who don’t feel they are on the same side as their boss.

With news of a potential takeover at Ibrox on its way, this could be exactly what those inside Ibrox need to overthrow the current regime and look ahead to more successful times once more.
