‘Clement will be sacked before Old Firm if he doesn’t axe this Rangers star’

Philippe Clement may not be in charge of Rangers for the next Old Firm clash versus Celtic.

The Belgian’s tenure in the Ibrox dugout reached a new nadir with a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of St Mirren on 22 February.

Rangers supporters have run out of patience with the former Monaco man and he is now hanging onto his job by the narrowest of threads.

Clinton Nsiala to get Clement sacked by Rangers

Whether Clement survives to take charge of the Old Firm clash on 16 March depends on whether he continues to start Clinton Nsiala after his shocking error against the Paisley outfit.

In the build-up to Mikael Mandron’s opening goal for St Mirren in the second half, the 21-year-old fell to the ground while chasing a long ball, seemingly under contact from the Saints star.

Referee Kevin Clancy let play continue and Mandron slotted the ball past Butland before the foul was given.

However, VAR recommended an on-field review and it was deemed that Nsiala had tripped himself and there was no foul from the attacker.

The Frenchman’s day went from bad to worse when he was outmuscled in the lead-up to Toyusi Olusanya’s strike that doubled the lead.

Clement needs to drop Nsiala

The Belgian needs to show that silly mistakes like the two that Nsiala made cannot go unpunished, especially when his side is in such a poor run of form and had a great chance to close the gap to Celtic, who had lost earlier in the day.

Shooting themselves in the foot is unacceptable and it will take something drastic for the 50-year-old to keep his place in the dugout if the Gers continue the way they are going, his fate may already be sealed and Nsiala’s errors definitely have not helped his cause.

The young French star has performed admirably in difficult circumstances since Clement brought him into the first-team picture but it is time to take him out of the firing line after a horrific display at Ibrox.

If he continues to start Nsiala after his latest terrible showing, he may find himself looking for a new job before the Old Firm clash comes around.
