Clement ‘dead man walking’ at Rangers as Ibrox sack latest emerges

Rangers manager Philippe Clement is clinging on to his place in the dugout at Ibrox.

Calls for the Belgian to be sacked have gone into overdrive after the 2-0 home defeat to St Mirren on Saturday (22 February).

The Gers had the chance to reduce the gap to Celtic to ten points but fell to second-half goals from Mikael Mandron and Toyosi Olusanya.

The former Monaco man looked glum on the sidelines and he may already know his fate despite having the board and Patrick Stewart’s backing.

Clement on borrowed time at Rangers

The Belgian surely cannot be in the dugout much longer after the miserable result at Ibrox.

A report from the Sun on Sunday (page 58, 23 February) claims that Clement is a “dead man walking at Ibrox.”

It said: “He won’t be Rangers manager next season – in truth, he should have been sacked a long time ago.”

Clement surely set to leave Rangers

Surely it is only a matter of time before Clement is given his marching order in Glasgow after an abysmal season which shows no signs of improving anytime soon.

The task of catching Celtic was always a long-term process but the 50-year-old does not look like the man that will achieve that given the constant failures that have taken place in this campaign.

Supporters have turned against him and the recent performances will not get him back into favour with the Ibrox faithful, there is no way back into the good graces, both parties need to cut their losses and move on.

Rangers’ recent results under Clement.

Stewart has so far avoided making big decisions since his December arrival but he can no longer hesitate, he has to pull the trigger and end Clement’s misery after the latest setback.

The shocking Scottish Cup exit to lowly Queen’s Park (9 February) should have been the final straw but there is no justification for not sacking the manager now.

There is no other alternative, otherwise, protests from Rangers supporters will go into overdrive and the divide between the fanbase and the club will only grow, leading to more problems for the board.

The Gers have a chance for a deep run in the Europa League but Clement has shown that he is no longer the man to lead the Govan outfit, somebody else should have that chance.
