Philippe Clement sack: Interim manager ‘to be appointed’ at Rangers now

Rangers are to set to sack Philippe Clement in a “pointless” decision, Graham Spiers has argued.

The Belgian once again hit a new low at Ibrox on Saturday (22 February), losing 2-0 against St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.

Clement has faced serious sack pressure since another disastrous defeat at home to Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup, with Patrick Stewart trying to back him.

Rangers to appoint new manager at Ibrox

Spiers has said that the Bears will now appoint an interim manager instead with a takeover on the horizon from American investors, albeit they’re still stuck in a mess with no other choice at this stage.

Writing on X, he said: “Impossible to see Philippe Clement surviving, as pointless as his removal will be, with Europe still beckoning and a takeover on the way.

“The dreaded “interim” will arrive and Rangers will lurch on. Rangers are trapped within a mess.”

Rangers to sack Philippe Clement

It has been coming for months now, but finally, Stewart and Fraser Thornton surely have no choice but to pull the trigger on the Rangers manager tonight.

Defeat to Queen’s Park is one thing, but to constantly fail in the Scottish Premiership is another, especially after Celtic lost at Hibernian on the same day.

It had been years since the Old Firm clubs both lost on the same weekend, Paul Merson was left stunned by the Rangers’ reveal, and it is time to pack his bags.

Clement keeps coming out with the same old rubbish that he will fight until the end, which is ironic because he is doing the very opposite with his players lacking all hope on the pitch.

An interim manager will do little to change anything with the Europa League the only hope of silverware, so it may be time to get a permanent appointment in place ahead of the summer to start work early.

Alex Rae is usually one of the men that is turned to, but even he has had very little success while involved in a coaching role at Ibrox in recent years.

Whether it happens tonight or at the start of the next week, Rangers have to announce the sacking of Clement now or face an even bigger disconnect with fans than they already have at Ibrox.

It is unacceptable to continue this way, it has to change now.
