Paul Merson stunned by ‘Extraordinary’ Rangers reveal on Sky Sports

Paul Merson was left in shock after what was revealed live on Sky Sports following Rangers’ 2-0 defeat to St. Mirren on Saturday afternoon.

Rangers fell to yet another embarrassing defeat, this time to St. Mirren who came away from Ibrox with all three points in a 2-0 victory.

Philippe Clement has been under intense pressure at Rangers for some time now, and it’s hard to see the latest result do anything but ramp up the heat on the Belgian.

The only minor solace the Light Blues can take from the day, is the fact that Celtic also suffered a shock defeat, meaning that the gap at the top remains at 13 points.

Paul Merson shocked after latest Rangers reveal

While the focus will be on yet another defeat for Rangers, a remarkable stat was revealed live on Sky Sports News (22 February, 4:50pm) leaving Merson stunned.

This was the first time since February 2018 that both Rangers and Celtic tasted defeat on the same day, with Merson immediately expressing his shock at the reveal.

Merson said: “Wow, that is extraordinary,” in a short yet very effective response.

The reveal serves as an embarrassing reminder for Rangers who will undoubtedly be keen to get this failure of a season over and done with.

Philippe Clement simply has to go

If Rangers are to get back to a place where they are able to compete for trophies, Clement needs to be sacked immediately. It really is that simple.

There have been no signs of progression under his stewardship and things are getting worse for Rangers with each passing week, and will continue to do so until he is gone.

Success is a distant memory this season, but if the Light Blues act now and appoint a new manager, they can at least be afforded the remainder of the season to stamp their own authority on the team and have a real go in the next campaign.

The longer that Clement is allowed to keep his job, the more concerns will emerge and fans will start to show their discontent with their feet.
