Rangers transfer news as ‘remarkable’ Ben Davies to Birmingham verdict shared
Ben Davies is one of several forgotten Rangers players who are finding new leases of life away from Ibrox this season.
Davies, alongside fellow Rangers loanee Kieran Dowell and another ex-Light Blue in Scott Wright, is currently sitting pretty at the top of England’s League One, with Birmingham six points clear.
The recently relegated Second City side also have an 11-point buffer in the automatic promotion places, making an immediate return to the Championship look increasingly likely with every passing week.
Having already signed Wright permanently for a fee in the region of £500,000 last summer, Birmingham may be minded to send transfer fees Rangers’ way for both Dowell and Davies come season’s end.

‘Remarkable’ Ben Davies tipped to seal permanent Rangers exit
Having been a Birmingham player six months longer than Dowell, Davies looks increasingly likely to secure a permanent transfer to St. Andrews this summer but has given no clues on his future yet.
However, John McGarry and Robert Forsyth reported in The Daily Mail (19 February) that with Birmingham’s sat at the top of League One, it would be “remarkable” if Davies isn’t considering a move.
Davies has been a regular fixture at the back for the Blues, starting 25 times in all competitions, with 29 appearances in total leaving him well on track to surpass his numbers in a single season for the Bears.
Rangers Season | Ben Davies – Premiership appearances | Appeareances in all competitions |

2023/24 | 8 | 17 |

Birmingham can boost Rangers coffers with double transfer
Given the huge pressure to win every game which hangs over Ibrox constantly, it’s clear that Rangers wouldn’t be sending players out on loan if they were firmly part of the first-team picture in Light Blue.
That certainly applied to Wright and Davies last summer as Philippe Clement led a huge overhaul of the playing squad in Govan, and Dowell was also deemed surplus to requirements last month.
Wright, Davies, and now Dowell all being first-choice players for high-flying Birmingham suggest that with promotion soon to be under their belts, permanent transfers will be in the offing for the latter duo.
An immediate return to the Championship will also bring a financial windfall – something Rangers could also be in line for very soon – which will enable the Midlanders to keep hold of their impressive loanees.
With neither Davies nor Dowell’s loans including any option to buy, it remains to be seen if and when Birmingham will move to seal permanent deals for the pair, but with Rangers possibly under new ownership by the summer, there’ll be little resistance to letting either return south of the border.
