Rangers to ‘sack Philippe Clement’ after surprising 49ers admission at Ibrox
Rangers could potentially sack Philippe Clement after a surprising admission regarding the San Francisco 49ers.
Ibrox could welcome the 49ers Enterprises soon as advanced talks have taken place around a potential takeover of the Gers [Daily Record].
The American consortium, who also own Leeds United, are in talks over a multi-million-pound deal to control the Light Blues.
As a result, Clement, who has been underwhelming at the Bears this season, is at risk of losing his job in the coming months.
49ers Enterprises to sack Philippe Clement at Rangers
Clement will likely be sacked by the 49ers Enterprises once they complete their takeover, Andy Devlin says.
The Scottish Sun journalist would be amazed to see the Belgian manager last at the Glaswegian outfit beyond the current campaign.
While Devlin expects Clement to remain in the Ibrox dugout until the end of the season, the former Monaco head coach will likely be fired next summer.
Speaking on The Scottish Sun SPORT (20 February), the journalist said: “I would be amazed if [Clement] is the Rangers manager beyond the summer because you’ll have this consortium coming in with their own ideas, they will want their own people in charge.
“If they don’t see Clement, and I don’t think they do, as the man to take the club forward, any money they have to spend in the summer, they’re not going to give it to him.
“Clement will get till the end of the season. Beyond that, I’d be amazed if he’s still the manager.”
Philippe Clement will not last under 49ers Enterprises
Clement’s departure from Ibrox is inevitable after what has been an inconsistent season for the Bears.
After some impressive performances recently, the Belgian manager seemed to have allayed fears surrounding his future, but the Queen’s Park loss has been a major blow for him.
It was surprising to see the 50-year-old survive despite the humiliating defeat in the Scottish Cup, but Patrick Stewart seems to trust him for now.
The Gers are out of the domestic cup competitions, and their prospects in the Scottish Premiership look bleak as Celtic lead by 13 points.
Scottish Premiership Table | Points |
1. Cletic | 69 |
2. Rangers | 56 |
Clement’s only hope of a trophy at Ibrox remains the Europa League, but it would arguably take a miracle for the Light Blues to lift the title at San Mames.
Stewart and the rest of the hierarchy may be waiting for elimination from the European competition to part ways with the Belgian head coach finally.
If the 49ers eventually take over the Bears, the Ibrox faithful will expect them to get someone proven in the dugout as Clement’s replacement.
It would indeed be amazing to see the potential new owners back the former Monaco boss.
