Rangers priority emerges after 49ers development in Celtic claim
Rangers will have one priority in particular if 49ers Enterprises take control at Ibrox.
The Scottish FA won’t stand in the 49ers’ way as they look to buy shares in the Light Blues [Daily Record].
Dave King’s stake in Ibrox is being eyed as the American consortium are closing in on an agreement with the South African-based Glaswegian businessman [Scottish Express].
If the deal goes through, the Glaswegian outfit’s fresh investment will lead to high expectations among the fans.
49ers to prioritise Scottish Premiership at Rangers
Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson feels the 49ers Enterprises’ first priority at the Bears will be to win the Scottish Premiership.
The ex-Gers man believes the American consortium’s entire business model will be based around success domestically as they will look to knock Celtic off their perch.
Ferguson thinks that to maximise their return, the 49ers will evidently want to be in the Champions League.
The former midfielder wrote in the Daily Record (21 February): “If this deal goes through, then the first priority will be to win back the domestic title because that’s what the whole business model will be based on.
“If any investor wants to maximise their returns, it means getting into the Champions League. And that means knocking Celtic off their perch. That’s certainly music to my ears, and I’m pretty sure almost all my fellow fans out there will be feeling the same way.”

San Francisco 49ers to compete with Celtic
Rangers have fallen behind Celtic in Scotland over the last few years, and the 49ers will need to beat the Old Firm rivals if they want to be successful.
The Gers are 13 points behind Celtic in the league table, as things stand, and it looks unlikely they will be able to catch them.
Scottish Premiership (2024/25) | Point |
1. Celtic | 69 |
2. Rangers | 56 |
Philippe Clement will likely be sacked if the 49ers arrive, as the Belgian manager has failed to convince anyone this season.
The Light Blues were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Queen’s Park, and it was surprising to see Patrick Stewart stick by the head coach.
It all makes sense now, considering the new chief executive officer may be waiting for a potential takeover to go through before deciding on Clement’s future.
While the former Monaco boss could still end up pulling a rabbit out of his hat by winning the Europa League, the most realistic scenario is the Bears being knocked out of the competition and the manager subsequently being fired.
Celtic have shown they are far ahead of the Gers as they recently went toe-to-toe with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
But the future seems bright for the Light Blues if things fall into place.
