49ers share percentage revealed as Rangers takeover source shares two-word update

49ers Enterprises are set to buy a controlling stake of Rangers with a deal now just a few months away from completion.

Paraag Marathe is reportedly the major force behind the San Francisco 49ers’ investment arm’s bid to buy into the Scottish Premiership giants.

News broke earlier this week that Rangers shareholders are in advanced talks with Marathe and a US consortium and now more details about the deal have been revealed.

49ers to own 51% Rangers stake

The Athletic reported on Friday (21 February) that 49ers Enterprises are now a “few months” away from buying a controlling 51 per cent stake in Rangers.

It is understood that while there are many shareholders at the Ibrox club, there are enough who are “willing to sell that it would give 49ers Enterprises the control and influence the group is seeking”.

New Oasis is the biggest stakeholder and they are owned by ex-Gers chairman Dave King. He’s been trying to offload his slice of the pie for a while after previously trying to reach a deal with fan-led Club 1872.

49ers Enterprises are also the controlling stakeholders at Leeds United. Last year, however, they sold a minority shareholding to Austrian energy drink giant Red Bull.

Rangers takeover deal ‘well-baked’ – anonymous source

The Athletic add that they’ve been told by an anonymous source close to the 49ers’ takeover that the structure of the deal is “well-baked”.

What this likely means is that talks have been going on for quite a while and there’s a broad agreement between all the major players both on the US side of talks, and those who are sat on the Light Blues’ board.

There’s no denying the fact that change is needed at Rangers with years of mediocrity leading to a point where Philippe Clement’s side is losing to Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup, being 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and yet another season without any silverware.
