Rangers takeover news: Dave King to ‘offload his parcel’ in 49ers update
Rangers have been at the centre of attention regarding their ownership over the last 24 hours.
The Gers have had a less-than-successful campaign this season with the Ibrox outfit missing out on the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup among other things.
However, after news of the 49ers Enterprises potentially taking over Rangers broke, it feels like things could be starting to look up in Glasgow.
And a fresh update about Dave King’s shares in Rangers has emerged after the recent takeover news that has broken.

Dave King could offload his Rangers shares after 49ers news
Due to the Gers not competing in the Champions League, times have been tough in Govan despite the fact they’ve managed to get into the latter stages of the Europa League.
Plenty of changes are expected to take place at Ibrox both behind-the-scenes and on the pitch if a deal goes through but King releasing his shares could be a rather positive thing for the club itself.
Especially since a report from the Mail (19 February) has shared that the former Ibrox chairman is “keen” to offload his stake in the club.
“Dave King is thought to be keen to offload his parcel, and Julian Wolhardt and John Halsted have become peripheral figures,” they wrote.
Rangers could do with 49ers Enterprises coming in
If the 2024/25 season is anything to look back at, it’s that Rangers seem to be miles behind their rivals in every aspect.
While they may have managed to beat Celtic 3-0 back in January and took things down to the wire in the Scottish League Cup final, the gulf in quality between the two squads is extraordinary.
Team | Position | Points |
Celtic | 1st | 69 |
Rangers | 2nd | 56 |
Aberdeen | 3rd | 38 |
Dundee United | 4th | 37 |
On paper, Rangers do have some of the best players in the Scottish Premiership but throughout the season, it feels like they can’t be relied upon to deliver consistent results, especially when their embarrassing 1-0 defeat to Queen’s Park is also taken into account.
Philippe Clement’s men may have only lost four games in the league this term but the fact that one of those defeats have come against St Mirren proves how poor they’ve been.
Only time will tell what the future holds for the Ibrox outfit but at the moment, it feels like fans will be holding out hope for the 49ers to come in and fund the club back to its best.
