Rangers news: Dave King gives green signal as timeline emerges for 49ers takeover

Rangers and San Francisco 49ers appear to have reached a broad agreement with regard to the takeover.

Talks were understood to be at an advanced stage not too long ago, but things appear to have progressed.

Dave King, who owns a 13 per cent stake in the club, is understood to be supportive of the takeover as well.

Rangers could be under new ownership by April

BBC journalist Tom English offered more information surrounding the club’s takeover with things seeming to progress.

The 49ers would acquire more than 50 per cent of the stake in the club while also taking on the debt, much of which is owed to John Bennett, a 7 per cent stakeholder and former chairman of the Ibrox outfit.

The expectation is that the deal can be completed between April and June with 49ers Enterprises hopeful of completing it by then.

Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe is seen as the driving force behind this deal as he aims to seal the takeover.

Behind the scenes at Rangers, there appears to be a general agreement that there is a need for new energy and money.

Patrick Stewart and Philippe Clement may soon be redundant

It’s unclear what the future holds for some of the senior figures at Ibrox, especially if the 49ers aim to take a majority stake.

Patrick Stewart joined recently and he might get some leeway but if the American owners have their own CEO who they’d like to bring in, the former Manchester United chief may be shown the door.

The same could happen to Philippe Clement as his track record is far from impressive and the 49ers may want to start with a clean slate.

The 49ers will be aware of the fan sentiment and getting them onside would mean parting ways with the Belgian as soon as possible.

Given the timeline of the takeover, they’re expected to come in at the end of the season and ahead of the transfer window which is the perfect time to make wholesale changes.
