Rangers fans warned 49ers to ‘take money out of Ibrox’ as takeover reality laid bare
Rangers supporters have been warned that the 49ers takeover of the Ibrox outfit will not be plain sailing.
The enterprise arm of the San Francisco 49ers NFL franchise are looking to expand their roster of sports teams and are in advanced negotiations to take a majority shareholding in the Govan club.
Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe is leading the discussions between the parties and the deal is expected to be completed by the summer.
However, the deal could have a negative impact on the Gers after a new update was shared that paints a worrying picture for Philippe Clement‘s side.

49ers takeover reality shared for Rangers
David Edgar, who goes by Heart and Hand on X, has shared a brutal reality amid the excitement over the potential investment claiming that the Ibrox club will not be suddenly spending huge sums on players.
He also shared that the 49ers will not back the Gers without getting something in return, saying: “There will be plusses and minuses to this and it’s probably important we get our heads round that at the start.
“Firstly, we’re not going to be suddenly spending fortunes on players. Against that, we will have far more access to funds and a huge bump in revenue streams.
“The owners will not be here to be benefactors. They will want a return on their money. That means taking money out.
“Thirdly, if you’ve ever thought the board don’t care about us or only want our money – you ain’t seen nothing yet.
“These are businesspeople. We are customers to them. If they can fill the Broomie with high-spending tourists, they will.”

49ers takeover should benefit Rangers
The disagreement between board members has hampered the Light Blues severely in recent years and the chaos has affected Philippe Clement’s side on the pitch.
Given that the Bears are lightyears behind Celtic at the moment, new investment is crucial to allow them to catch up with their arch-rivals but a level of stability in the backroom is more essential than transfers right now.
Scottish Premiership | Games | GD | Points |
Celtic | 26 | +64 | 69 |
Rangers | 26 | +34 | 56 |
That is exactly what the 49ers will bring to Rangers. Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, football finance expert Kieran Maguire believes that the deal has the potential to end the in-fighting.
Maguire warned that the takeover will not bring an end to the Gers’ financial problems but should ultimately work for the club by bringing everybody involved onto the same page rather than the constant conflict that arises at the moment.
The 49ers could have an issue with Scottish FA regulations that would only allow them to own a total of 29.9 per cent of shares in the Govan outfit, but given that they are part of a ‘wider consortium’, there should be a way to work around that problem.
