Ianis Hagi to pursue transfer away from Ibrox after talks with Rangers teammate

Ianis Hagi has made up his mind about his future at Ibrox after holding talks with a Rangers teammate.

Hagi has been a key player for Rangers since Philippe Clement reinstated him to the team, bagging three goals and seven assists in 16 Scottish Premiership games this season.

However, the Romania international faces an uncertain future at the Glasgow-based club as he is in the final five months of his contract.

Having been frozen out by Clement at the start of the season, Hagi is seemingly tempted by the prospect of leaving the Light Blues for another club in the summer.

Ridvan Yilmaz convinces Ianis Hagi about Rangers exit

Fenerbahce are interested in snapping up Hagi on a free transfer ahead of next season and have already opened initial contacts for the attacker, according to TGRT Haber.

The Turkish broadcasters also reported via their website on Tuesday (18 February) that the 26-year-old has ‘consulted’ Ridvan Yilmaz about joining Fenerbahce.

Having received positive feedback from the Turkey international, Hagi is now prioritising a transfer to Fenerbahce ahead of the summer.

This comes after Gheorghe Hagi, his father and a Galatasaray icon, already gave his approval for the transfer.

Meanwhile, Hagi has already rejected a contract offer from Rangers as he seeks a more ambitious project away from Scotland, leaving Clement’s side reserved for the fact that they are going to lose him.

Ianis Hagi prioritises Fenerbahce transfer

It is worth noting that Yilmaz does not have affiliations with Fenerbahce. The left-back notably rose through the ranks at Besiktas, their Super Lig rivals, and made 62 first-team appearances for them before joining Rangers in 2022.

However, as a seven-time Turkey international, the 23-year-old is certainly more qualified than any other Gers player to advise Hagi on a transfer to Fenerbahce.

It is, therefore, understandable why the defender would give the Romanian a glowing review of one of the biggest clubs in his country.

It is not good news for the Light Blues, though, as they are set to lose another player on a free transfer.

The Premiership heavyweights have struggled to fetch significant transfer fees for their players in recent years and it appears the trend will continue with Hagi.
