Philippe Clement at Rangers ‘breaking point’ after what’s been heard at Ibrox
Philippe Clement is potentially under severe pressure at Rangers after what’s been heard from around Ibrox.
The Belgian manager’s future was up in the air after the Gers lost 1-0 to Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup at home on 9 February.
Patrick Stewart hasn’t sacked Clement yet as he took charge of the Light Blues as they beat Hearts 3-1 at Tynecastle Stadium on Sunday (16 February).
With inconsistent results over the course of this season, the mood around the Glaswegian outfit is negative right now.
Philippe Clement at breaking point at Rangers
Clement is at “breaking point” at the Bears as fans have mixed feelings around him, Billy Dodds says.
The former Gers striker has heard fans have different opinions about the Belgian manager’s future at the Light Blues.
Dodds feels there’s a lot of negativity around the Glaswegian outfit after talking to supporters.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (18 February), the Scotsman said: “They’re mixed. Some fans have had enough. Some still want to give him the benefit of the doubt. But there’s a lot of negativity, and I think it’s at breaking point. That’s the feeling I get from the fans I speak to.”
Philippe Clement sack inevitable at Ibrox
Clement’s sacking at Rangers seems inevitable after they were knocked out of the Scottish Cup, effectively ending their domestic season.
The Gers are 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, making it unrealistic for them to win the title in the current campaign.
Stewart may be waiting for the Europa League to commence before making a final decision on the Belgian manager.
Protests have been held around Ibrox, expressing discontent with the management of the Light Blues, which could evidently play a part in the board’s decision.
It seems highly unlikely that Clement will be able to take the Bears all the way in the European competition, arguably making his dismissal a matter of time.
Europa League top eight | Points |
1. Lazio | 19 |
2. Athletic Club | 19 |
3. Manchester United | 18 |
4. Tottenham | 17 |
5. Eintracht Frankfurt | 16 |
6. Olympique Lyon | 15 |
7. Olympiacos | 15 |
8. Rangers | 14 |
The former Monaco head coach had managed to quell the noise around his future in recent weeks, but the Queen’s Park loss has led to increased scrutiny.
Supporters will have a hard time forgetting the humiliating defeat in the Scottish Cup, and it will remain as a reason to sack Clement no matter what he achieves at the Glaswegian outfit.
It looks like the Belgian manager is on the brink at the Gers, and a decision on his future will be made sooner rather than later.
