Ianis Hagi ‘approaching’ shock Ibrox exit as Rangers transfer news emerges

Ianis Hagi is open to leaving Rangers in search of a ‘more ambitious project’ elsewhere with a new transfer taking shape.

Hagi has been a key player for Rangers since being reintegrated into the first team in October, bagging three goals and seven assists in 19 games across all competitions.

The Romania international’s performances have prompted some to question Philippe Clement’s decision not to bring him back into the fold sooner.

The Light Blues’ treatment of Hagi could prove costly as he is seemingly tempted to pack his bags and leave at the end of the season.

Fenerbahce make move to sign Ianis Hagi

Fenerbahce are interested in signing Hagi this summer and are ‘officially involved’ in securing a transfer, according to TGRT Haber.

The Turkish broadcasters reported via their website on Tuesday (18 February) that the Super Lig club have already initiated the ‘first contacts’ for the 26-year-old.

Hagi’s father Gheorghe Hagi, a Galatasaray great, has advised him about moving to Istanbul, prompting the attacker to ‘approach’ the surprise transfer positively.

The former Genk star has turned down a contract offer from Rangers during negotiations as he wants to pursue a more ambitious project outside of Scotland.

Rangers to lose Ianis Hagi

Rangers forced Hagi to train away from Clement’s squad due to a contract dispute after he returned from his loan at Alaves.

The Romanian quickly proved the decision-makers wrong as provided an assist in a 2-0 win against St. Johnstone in his first game back in the team on 6 October, although he was also sent off that evening.

Hagi has since established himself as a regular starter for Clement’s side, bagging two assists in their 3-1 win against Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday, 16 February.

Losing the ambidextrous attacker on a free transfer would be a huge blow for the Gers, especially considering how much they have struggled to fetch decent transfer fees for their players in recent years.

Therefore, the Ibrox outfit must see if there is any possibility of convincing Hagi to put pen to paper on a new deal in Govan even if it means he is immediately sold to another club in the summer.
