Neil McCann shares instant reaction to ‘horror show’ in Rangers win v Hearts

Rangers fans were left as baffled as Neil McCann after securing a 3-1 win against Hearts on Sunday.

The Gers have bounced back from their embarrassing Scottish Cup defeat against Queens Park with a hard-fought win at Tynecastle on 16 February.

Philippe Clement’s side were far from their best against the Maroons but will gladly take the three points back with them to Ibrox.

The away side certainly got lucky at times and have a lot to thank Jamie McCart for in helping them to earn the win.

Neil McCann reacts to Jamie McCart own goals v Rangers

Neil Critchley’s side spent large spells of the clash on the front foot but ultimately fell to defeat due to two own goals from their centre-back.

Craig Gordon palmed a low cross off the 27-year-old’s shins for the opening goal which sent the Light Blues on their way to taking the victory.

Despite Hearts getting back on level terms, Vaclav Cerny and a second own-goal from the Scot allowed the Gers to see out a 3-1 win.

It was the second OG of the afternoon that left McCann baffled in what was an unfortunate stroke of luck for the defender.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Football (1:33pm), he said: “This is an own goal, there’s no question. I know Dessers plays a big part in it but, Jamie McCart, how unlucky can you be? He’s trying to throw his leg in because he’s just caught on the wrong side.

“It turns out to be a really unfortunate last touch, just bending it past Craig Gordon. That’s a horror show for Jamie McCart, two own-goals in one game.”

Rangers secure much needed win v Hearts

It can’t be forgotten how important a positive result was for the future of Clement at Ibrox after a historically bad defeat last time out.

Despite receiving public backing from Patrick Stewart, there was little room for error at Tynecastle and they made sure three points were secured.

This was certainly massively helped by two own goals from McCart which ultimately proved to be the difference between the two sides on the day.

The second was impacted massively by second-half substitute Cyriel Dessers who had the desired effect off the bench for the travelling outfit.

The Belgian head coach won’t care about how the result came about, all that matters is that his side secured a win despite the performance being poor at times.
