Kris Boyd baffled by what Philippe Clement said after Rangers win v Hearts

Kris Boyd continues to be frustrated with Philippe Clement despite Rangers securing a win against Hearts on Sunday.

The Gers are taking three points back to Ibrox with them after a much-needed 3-1 win at Tynecastle Park on 16 February.

This came thanks to two own goals from Jamie McCart and a somewhat fortunate strike from Vaclav Cerny in the second half.

These goals came despite Neil Critchley’s men having the better of the play for the majority of the game, which makes Philippe Clement’s happiness all the more confusing.

Kris Boyd slams Philippe Clement for comments after Rangers win v Hearts

Every Light Blues fan will be happy to have secured three points away from home, especially after the defeat to Queens Park last time out.

Regardless of that, the performance was far from ideal and there was little positive to speak of when it comes to what the Gers players did in EH11.

This wasn’t the case for Clement who was pleased with his side’s reaction and their mentality to win, speaking about Hearts’ form in 2025.

These sorts of comments didn’t settle right with Boyd on Sky Sports Football (2:20pm) who questioned what game the Belgian was watching.

He said: “I don’t know, sometimes I think Philippe Clement has watched a different game.

“Hearts caused Rangers all sorts of problems, Yes Rangers have won the game but I look at big clubs in other countries and Celtic in Scotland and they dominate games of football.

“They’ve got better players, they’re spending a lot more money on wages, they dominate games of football and I never see that from Rangers. I never see it.

“There’s moments when they’re on top and you think maybe they can score a few goals but all of a sudden they revert to what we see far too often from Rangers.”

Rangers lucky to secure win v Hearts

Regardless of what the ex-Monaco boss thinks, there is no doubt that Hearts had the better of the play and arguably deserved more from the game.

If it wasn’t for the outstanding Jack Butland in goal for the Gers, the scoreline and result could have been completely different at Tynecastle.

On the flip side of this, Ianis Hagi was on top form and showed himself to be a step above his teammates in terms of creativity against the Maroons.

These sorts of individual performances have ultimately bailed Clement out and allowed him to speak positively after the game.

Many supporters would rather hear the Belgian slam his side for a frustrating performance but note that three points is three points.

The positivity, given that the Gers now have very little to play for this season is only going to grate on fans as the campaign goes on.
