Hearts v Rangers: BBC pundit reacts to ‘Apathy’ in 3-1 win
Rangers struggled to control proceedings against Hearts on Sunday at Tynecastle but still had fortune favour them.
The hosts started the game strongly and despite having early shots on target, Gers were the side that took the lead via an own goal.
Despite equalising, Hearts failed to take control of the game and the visitors scored against the run of play to put the game beyond all doubt and win 3-1.
Rangers get fortunate with the Hearts own goals
Hearts scored an equaliser through Michael Steinwnder and BBC’s John Robertson credited the fans for getting behind the hosts.
He also stated that the Union Bears and the travelling fans were trying to do whatever they could for the visitors, but the home fans acted like a 12th man.
He told BBC at 1:15pm: “The crowd have gotten right behind them.
“The Rangers fans, the Union Bears at the bottom, are trying at times. But it’s like the team. It looks like apathy on and off the pitch.”
Philippe Clement still does little to show why he deserves to stay
This was a fortunate escape rather than a display of tactical cohesion, highlighting the ongoing issues under Philippe Clement.
The team exhibited no discernible patterns of play, with their performance marked by haphazard defending and disjointed attacking efforts.
Two of Gers’ goals came from Hearts’ own goals, underscoring their reliance on luck rather than structured play.
Despite Hearts equalising through Steinwnder and having quality goal-scoring chances, the visitors scored against the run of play, further exposing their lack of control.
While Clement will gratefully accept the three points, this match did little to prove he is the right man to reverse Rangers’ fortunes.
His inability to instil a clear identity or consistent strategy continues to plague the team, and with no signs of improvement, questions over his suitability persist.
Luck may have favoured his side this time, but Clement’s tenure remains on shaky ground as fans demand more than fortunate results.

Fans too, will be pleased that they could end the week with a win, but they will know that things are far from settled and a lot of work still needs to be done.
