Kris Boyd issues one word Philippe Clement sack verdict with Rangers in crisis

Kris Boyd shared a one-word response to Philippe Clement and his future at Rangers ahead of the clash with Hearts.

Clement is hanging onto his job at Ibrox by his fingertips on the back of last weekend’s Scottish Cup loss at home to Queen’s Park.

Many felt that would be the final straw for the Belgian, but he remains in charge for Rangers’ match with Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday (16 February).

Boyd said earlier this week that Clement may have lost the trust of certain Rangers players on the basis of the results this season.

And the former Rangers striker has now given an even more damning indictment of Clement’s future in Glasgow.

Philippe Clement surely heading for Rangers sack

Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart has made clear finances alone are not the reason why Clement is still standing.

Indeed, the fact Rangers are through to the last 16 of the Europa League is probably a bigger factor in the Belgian’s future.

However, in the view of Boyd, speaking live on Sky Sports News [15 February, 1:07pm], Clement is not the man to take the Light Blues forward at this stage.

Asked if he has faith in Clement to stay on, Boyd summed it up in one word as he said “no”.

Boyd added: “First of all, Rangers Football Club should never be a project. I can totally understand if you’re watching matches and can see a style of play and things improving, but that’s not been the case for Rangers.

“Clement and Rangers will get results because they’re a better team than the majority of teams in the Scottish Premiership. But when you lose these types of games, that leads to a crisis, which is what it is right now. And I don’t see it getting much better.”

Rangers’ fixture list

Rangers had actually been on a positive run of form heading into the Queen’s Park match, but all that went down the drain in the space of 90 terrible minutes.

The Gers now turn focus to Sunday’s visit to Tynecastle, although a win in that one will hardly make Clement‘s job any safer.

After that match with Hearts comes a home match with St Mirren next weekend and then a trip to Kilmarnock before February concludes.

Nine points from nine is the only target from those to help restore some pride. Ultimately, though, with three months of the campaign to go, the only thing left playing for is the Europa League.

Win that and Clement will well and truly have proved his doubters wrong. On the basis of results up to this stage in all competitions, though, there is an acceptance that will never happen.
