Rangers news round-up: Clement sack twist shared, ‘Ridiculous’ Celtic claim made
Rangers appear to be in a chaotic situation on and off the pitch and things do not appear to be getting any better for them.
They are 13 points behind Celtic in the league and with the Scottish Cup final defeat against Queen’s Park, the Europa League remains their only chance to win a trophy this season.
With plenty being reported about the club in the media, Ibrox News has rounded up all the important stories from 14 February.
Patrick Stewart holds talks with Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement revealed that he held talks with CEO Patrick Stewart after the shocking Queen’s Park defeat.
While conversations took place with Stewart, the Belgian asserted that they were nothing out of the ordinary and that such talks happen frequently.
However, the Gers boss did admit that apart from Pep Guardiola, no other manager’s job is safe at all times.
In the pre-match press conference ahead of the Hearts clash, Clement said: “I spoke with Patrick (Stewart) after the game as I do after every game. For sure, I know Sunday was a big blow to get that result. It is unacceptable. We have had some great moments together at Ibrox, this was clearly a bad moment. I understand the frustrations. I want to fight for this club.
“Not one manager in world has guarantees. Maybe Guardiola. We spoke about game and result didn’t reflect game. Now we need to react”
Rod Stewart blasts ‘ridiculous’ Rangers and Celtic situation
Rod Stewart has admitted that he wants Gers to improve as he thinks it’s too easy for Celtic to go on about their business.
He has blasted how bad the other teams are, making things boring as the Hoops are cruising to yet another SPFL title.
These comments have been made in the aftermath of Rangers’ shock exit from the Scottish Cup.
Speaking live on talkSPORT (14 February), Stewart said: “Yeah I know when that lovely guy saved the penalty [for Queen’s Park] me and my son danced all over the room jumped on the sofa and went absolutely berserk.
“But listen, get me, and I’ve said this. We need a strong Rangers, we need the competition.
“We need a strong Hibs, Hearts, anybody because it’s beginning to be absolutely ridiculous to watch Celtic now, it’s so easy for them. So we need some strength up there in competition.”
Philippe Clement sack compensation admission made
PLZ Soccer presenter Peter Martin has mooted that it will cost the club £1.2million to part ways with Clement.
While there have been claims about Gers not being able to afford to sack the Belgian, it is not understood to be that costly of an affair.
However, as things stand, Clement’s job is safe despite the horrendous manner the season has unfolded.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer on 14 February at 3:33pm, Martin said: “£1.2million is what’s believed it would take (to sack him) is what’s keeping him in a job.”
