Philippe Clement makes Pep Guardiola claim ahead of Rangers v Hearts
Rangers will be looking to get back to winning ways against Hearts after a disappointing cup exit to Queen’s Park.
Philippe Clement did little to address any doubts about his credentials of being the best long-term fit for the Ibrox outfit after the 1-0 defeat in the Scottish Cup.
Gers are 13 points behind Celtic in the title race and their only realistic chance of silverware this season, even though it is a long shot at this stage, is winning the Europa League.
Philippe Clement has spoken ahead of the Hearts clash
Ahead of the game against Hearts on 16 February, Clement stated that bar Pep Guardiola, no other manager is guaranteed to remain in a job.
He also reveals that he’s held talks with Patrick Stewart and admits losing to Queen’s Park was “unacceptable”, per the club’s official X handle.
He said: “I spoke with Patrick (Stewart) after the game as I do after every game. For sure, I know Sunday was a big blow to get that result. It is unacceptable. We have had some great moments together at Ibrox, this was clearly a bad moment. I understand the frustrations. I want to fight for this club.
“Not one manager in world has guarantees. Maybe Guardiola. We spoke about game and result didn’t reflect game. Now we need to react”
Philippe Clement seems to be running out of time at Rangers
The Belgian must instil confidence by reinforcing the team’s capabilities and past successes, reminding them of their potential and the importance of unity.
He should work on tactical adjustments, possibly going back to basics and maybe implementing a few tweaks.
Additionally, Clement should foster a positive environment by encouraging open dialogue about the recent Scottish Cup defeat to Queen’s Park, allowing players to voice frustrations and refocus their energies.
Personalised motivation, like one-on-one talks with key players, could reignite their competitive spirit.
A loss against Hearts could be the tipping point for his tenure.
The board is under immense pressure from fans after the cup upset and with Gers trailing significantly in the league, with no domestic trophies in sight, another defeat would amplify the narrative of managerial inadequacy.
Given the financial implications of sacking him are high, the board would be reluctant but might see no other option if morale and performance continue to plummet.

The match against Hearts is not just about points but about proving viability to the board and fans, making it a critical moment for Clement’s future at Ibrox.
