Ally McCoist finally breaks silence on Rangers humiliation after talkSPORT bombardment
Rangers suffering an historic Scottish Cup defeat to Queen’s Park has led to a huge fallout from fans, pundits and club legends alike.
The Gers’ 1-0 loss at Ibrox – their first home defeat to lower-league opposition in the club’s entire history – has proven to be a watershed moment for Philippe Clement, who is now close to being sacked by Rangers.
Clement remains in post for now, despite effectively being out of contention for every single domestic competition his side are in this season, with a 13-point gap to make up to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table.
Losing on penalties to their Old Firm rivals in the League Cup final was tough to take in itself, but a history-making home defeat to a mid-table Championship side has left the future looking extremely bleak at Ibrox.
Ally McCoist reacts to latest Rangers debacle
Speaking on talkSPORT (12 February, 7:09am), McCoist was goaded into a response as Adrian Durham made a subtle dig at Rangers following the Gers legend’s rant about a hotel booking being cancelled.
McCoist said: “You couldn’t make it up – somebody had cancelled my room, I was absolutely devastated. There was nearly an international scene, how I managed to keep calm was remarkable.”
Durham added: “It’s [been] a bad week for Rangers…”
“Oh, it’s been a terrible week for Rangers”, McCoist responded.
This comes after two days of jibes aimed McCoist’s way, having not been on air since the Queen’s Park shocker.
Rangers must hit back quickly from terrible Queen’s Park result
Losing to Queen’s Park has seen Clement’s side plumb new depths, becoming the first-ever Rangers team to suffer such a result – which they didn’t even achieve while in the lower divisions themselves.

As a result, it’s no surprise to see fans and pundits calling for Clement’s head, as well as mass changes at boardroom level, but with newly-appointed executives still getting up to speed, this looks unlikely.
McCoist has previously been hesitant to claim the axe should be swung Clement’s way amid the off-field turmoil at Ibrox, with numerous financial problems making the decision far from straightforward for Rangers.
However, it’s difficult to see if and how Clement can possibly come back from such a debacle, as despite his side’s impressive exploits in Europe, domestic success is the standard-bearer for a Rangers manager.
Winning the Europa League, or getting to the semi-finals at least, may be the only thing the Belgian can do to keep his job long-term.
But with the Bears in dire straits financially, he still looks set to remain in post for the foreseeable future at least.
