Steven Gerrard return: Chris Sutton baffled by new Rangers developments
Chris Sutton has reacted as Rangers fans were asked whether they would take Steven Gerrard back at Ibrox.
Philippe Clement’s future is once again under consideration after the shock 1-0 defeat to Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup at Ibrox on Sunday (9 February).
The Belgian manager’s sacking seems inevitable after being eliminated from the domestic cup competition by a Scottish Championship outfit.
With the Scottish Cup being the only realistic chance the Light Blues had of lifting a trophy this season, it will be interesting to see what Patrick Stewart decides in the coming hours.
Steven Gerrard to return to Rangers after Philippe Clement sack?
Sutton was baffled when Gerrard’s return to the Glaswegian outfit was mooted.
Robbie Savage asked whether the Ibrox faithful would take their former manager back as Clement fights for his future.
Sutton seemed confused by the prospect of the 44-year-old’s return to the Bears after leaving for Aston Villa in 2021.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live (9 February), Savage asked: “Rangers fans, would you take Gerrard back?”
To which Sutton responded: “What?”

Steven Gerrard return to be welcomed at Ibrox
The Gers’ supporters will seemingly be delighted if the ex-Liverpool ace replaces the Belgian manager in the coming future.
As things stand, the former Monaco manager’s situation at the Light Blues feels untenable as fans have turned against him.
The Bears are 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and have now been knocked out of the Scottish Cup despite playing a strong starting lineup against Queen’s Park.
While the Glaswegian outfit are in the knockout stages of the Europa League, it will be challenging for them to get the better of the likes of Lazio and Athletic Club in the competition if they do meet.
Gerrard enjoyed a fruitful spell at the Gers before his managerial career took a downturn at Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq.
The Englishman led the Light Blues to their first league title in a decade and built the foundation of the team that made it to the Europa League final under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
If Clement does get sacked, the Bears must make the right appointment as they look to enter a new era with a seemingly different strategy of focusing on the youth.
Gerrard could arguably restart his career as a manager at Ibrox, and the fans will be satisfied with his appointment.
