Steve Clarke’s son posts message after what he said about Rangers v Queen’s Park
Philippe Clement’s side crashed and burned out of the Scottish Cup following Rangers’ 1-0 defeat to Queen’s Park at Ibrox.
The Light Blues were the laughingstock of Glasgow on Sunday night (9 February), with Seb Drozd’s 69th-minute goal proving the difference in a rather one-sided affair.
Despite Hamza Igamane, Cyriel Dessers, Vaclav Cerny, Ianis Hagi, Nedim Bajrami and Tom Lawrence all featuring, Clement’s side could not find a way past goalkeeper Calum Ferrie.
James Tavernier even missed a penalty in the last minute of added time to really pour salt into already-open wounds at Ibrox, and Steve Clarke‘s son did not bite his tongue on social media.
In a now-deleted post [Daily Record], John Clarke made reference to a 2-1 victory over the Gers in 2019, which sent the supporters into chaos as pressure piled on Clement, though he has now taken the jibe back.
John Clarke backs out of Rangers ‘joke’ after Queen’s Park shock
Taking to X [10 February], John Clarke wrote: “Yesterday evening, I made a post regarding the Rangers result. I’ve realised it was in poor taste and would like to apologise for it. I have since removed the post.
“I would also like to apologise to my dad for putting him in an awkward and wholly unnecessary position. He had absolutely nothing to do with the post and it was my error of judgment.
“I made a poor joke without thinking of the consequences. That’s on me and no one else.”
Philippe Clement must go after Scottish Cup embarrassment
Supporters have been waiting for the final straw to rear its ugly head for months, with Patrick Stewart refusing to pull the trigger on the Belgian’s tenure.
It now looks as though that moment has arrived, but the fury at the Ibrox board is not anything new.
An upset like this was almost expected from the Ibrox faithful, especially as the minutes ticked by during the Scottish Cup tie, and the fatal moment finally struck with 20 minutes left to play.
The Gers have been the joke of the town for the entire season, but losing to Championship side Queen’s Park is an absolute new low for the under-pressure manager.
If he refuses to walk away from Ibrox, scenes could be about to get even uglier – much uglier than the Ibrox walkout a few weeks ago.
