Robbie Savage wowed by Philippe Clement sack question at Rangers

Philippe Clement has serious questions to answer as Rangers crashed to a 1-0 defeat against Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.

The Gers somehow lost to the Scottish Championship outfit at Ibrox on Sunday (9 February) after a second-half goal from Sebastian Drozd.

James Tavernier had the opportunity to equalise from the spot late on, but Calum Ferrie saved his penalty.

The Light Blues are already miles behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and have lost the opportunity to lift domestic silverware after losing to Callum Davidson’s team.

Chris Sutton raises Philippe Clement sack question at Rangers

Chris Sutton has asked how long Clement will survive the sack at the Glaswegian outfit after a humiliating loss.

The Englishman termed the Gers’ situation embarrassing as they were knocked out of the Scottish Cup.

Robbie Savage was stunned after Sutton raised questions about the Belgian manager’s future at Ibrox.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live (10 February), the ex-Celtic ace said: “How embarrassing does it have to get for you? That was humiliation today on your own patch. Can Clement last the season?”

Savage reacted: “Wow.”

Philippe Clement set for sack after Queen’s Park loss

Clement had managed to buy himself some time at Rangers after recent form appeared to have finally turned the dark corner in Govan.

The Gers advanced to the Europa League’s knockout stages after beating Union Saint-Gilloise 2-1 on 30 January.

After beating Fraserburgh 5-0 in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup, the Light Blues were seen as one of the favourites to go all the way.

The competition presented a realistic opportunity for the Bears to lift a trophy at the end of the season, but it wasn’t meant to be for them.

Fans have already held protests at Ibrox demanding a change, and it remains to be seen whether the Glaswegian outfit’s hierarchy will finally pull the plug on Clement.

The Belgian manager was arguably lucky to survive the sack at the start of the season, but his current situation seems irredeemable.

While the Gers are still alive in the Europa League, it feels unrealistic that they will be able to repeat the heroics of the 2021/2022 season.

The Light Blues play Hearts on Sunday (16 February), and it remains to be seen whether the former Monaco head coach will be in the dugout.
