Rangers players ‘could force Clement sack at Ibrox’ after what Kris Boyd said

Philippe Clement continues to come under immense pressure at Rangers.

The Belgian head coach has spent the season in Govan facing questions over his job as the Gers fall further behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

These questions have only been amplified after the Light Blues fell to a home defeat in the Scottish Cup against Queen’s Park on Sunday (9 February).

This has sparked widespread frustration and demands that the ex-Monaco boss should be sacked, and that may not be far away after the latest development.

Philippe Clement could lose backing of Rangers players

There have been points this campaign where the dressing room at Ibrox has clearly been willing to go to battle for the Govan club’s head coach.

Examples are mainly in the Europa League, with the win against Nice and the defeat against Manchester United being particularly memorable for the performances.

With that being said, the loss against Queens Park summed up everything wrong with the side right now, and Kris Boyd believes the dressing room may have already lost faith in the manager.

Speaking to Sky Sports News (10 February), he said: “I think there’s a lack of trust from the players to the manager and vice-versa. Philippe Clement has stumbled across a few things this season and he’s gone with it.”

If this is to be the case in G51, there is every chance that the Belgian could be edging ever closer to facing the sack.

If his players refuse to play and the standard of showings continues to lessen week after week, the board in Govan won’t be able to ignore that.

Rangers players could get Philippe Clement sacked

There is every chance that finances at Ibrox are keeping Clement in a job but even if that is the case, form can not be ignored.

Patrick Stewart has a decision to make right now, and if he doesn’t opt to move the former Club Brugge boss on now, he may have to make that choice in the coming weeks anyway.

If the players decide to stop playing for the manager and results take an even further nose dive, there is every chance that the Europa League campaign crumbles and Dundee United pull closer to overtake the Light Blues in the Scottish Premiership.

This factor has to be taken into account by the hierarchy in G51 and as a result, bringing a new head coach could prove to make sense for all parties.
