Philippe Clement responds to Rangers resignation question
Philippe Clement was very straight to the point with his answer to calls for him to resign from his post as Rangers boss.
The Gers fell to a surprise 1-0 defeat in the Scottish Cup against Scottish Championship side Queen’s Park on Sunday thanks to a glorious finish by Sebastian Drozd in the 69th minute.
The Gers did have the chance to draw level in the dying embers of the game after Cyriel Dessers was brought down in the box but unfortunately, James Tavernier couldn’t put the ball into the back of the net.
While Clement’s men dominated the first half, their performance levels dwindled badly in the second half in front of a frustrated Ibrox.
And ultimately it was Callum Davidson’s side who emerged victorious on an embarrassing day for the Gers on home soil.
Philippe Clement is on borrowed time at Rangers
Since the 2024/25 season kicked off, Clement’s future at Ibrox has been brought into question by fans and pundits alike.
Fans have had a particularly toxic relationship with the Belgian after the multiple mishaps in the league that have already ruled them out of the race for the Scottish Premiership title.
And, now that they’ve been knocked out of the Scottish Cup, it feels highly unlikely that any silverware is coming the Gers’ way by the end of the season.
Taking to X (9 February), Four Lads Had a Dream shared that the Belgian “point blank” refused to go, despite Sunday’s defeat.
“Asked the manager if he would offer his resignation, he refused,” they wrote.
“Followed it up twice by saying majority of fans don’t want him & he doesn’t have any credit in the bank to survive this.
“Point blank refused to go, made excuses, no one has been saying this last few weeks.”
Philippe Clement has to leave Ibrox
Since the 2024/25 season kicked off, fans have wondered why the Belgian has been kept in his role.
There have been a fair few times already this season when fans have called for the head of Clement and after this defeat on Sunday, it feels like there’s no way he’d be able to keep his role at the club.

Patrick Stewart and Fraser Thornton have stuck by the 50-year-old for as long as possible and unfortunately for them, it just simply hasn’t worked out.
Of course, there have been times this season when Rangers have done some good things such as their eighth-placed finish in the Europa League.
However, seen as though there’s little to no chance of the Gers bringing that trophy back to Glasgow, it now feels like they have nothing to play for in the rest of the season.
Only time will tell what happens with Clement but if some drastic action isn’t taken soon, Rangers could start to lose their fanbase one by one.
