Chris Sutton aims immediate dig at Clement after stunning Rangers defeat v Queen’s Park
Chris Sutton aimed an immediate dig at Philippe Clement and Rangers after their stunning 1-0 defeat to Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup.
The two sides were facing off with one another in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup and shockingly it was Philippe Clement’s men who were dumped out at Ibrox.
The Belgian made a fair few changes to his starting XI but even that shouldn’t mean they were poor enough to lose to the Scottish Championship side.
Chris Sutton aims dig at Philippe Clement
The last few weeks at Rangers have seen the Ibrox outfit improving in a dismal season, especially after their top-eight finish in the Europa League.
However, despite being the overwhelming favourites it was Callum Davidson’s men who earned a famous cup upset against the Glasgow giants in front of a stunned Ibrox.
The likes of Hamza Igamane and Nedim Bajrami both started so there was more than enough quality on the pitch to get the job done but the Gers simply flopped.
Taking to his personal X account after the game (9 February), former Celtic striker and Sky Sports pundit Sutton stuck the knife in.
“Well played Queen’s Park and Callum Ferrie,” he wrote. “And Rangers were progressing so well under big Phil…”
Rangers need to go back to basics and find out what went wrong
It’s no secret that the Gers’ form this season has been bang average for the most part, however, nobody expected them to actually lose against Queen’s Park.
Rangers may still be competing in the Europa League but, in reality, their most likely chance of earning some silverware was going to be in the Scottish Cup.
Fans have been calling for the head of Clement since the start of the season and it feels like a lot more should be coming from the manager if he wants to prove his worth at Ibrox.

However, now that they’re out of the cup, it feels like there’s no reason to keep Clement around unless they want to bow out of the Europa League at the earliest possible opportunity.
At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what the future holds for Rangers but if Patrick Stewart and Fraser Thornton don’t come to the conclusion that Clement isn’t the right man for the job, then it feels like they’ve already accepted defeat.
Because in reality, the 50-year-old has been cut more than enough slack this season.
