Rangers news round-up: Ridvan Yilmaz talks continue, Vaclav Cerny affordable

Rangers are going through an encouraging period after a relatively uneventful winter transfer window.

The Light Blues made one signing before the 3 February deadline, getting Rafael Fernandes on loan from Lille.

Philippe Clement’s focus will now shift to the rest of the season as the Gers will likely look to get a hold of at least one piece of silverware.

The Bears have advanced to the Europa League’s knockout stages and will face Queen’s Park at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup on Sunday (9 February).

Clement makes interesting Bailey Rice admission

Stevie Clifford believes Bailey Rice still has a long way to go before staking a claim at the Glaswegian outfit.

Philippe Clement feels the 18-year-old has a lot to learn off the ball, which the Four Lads man concurs with.

Speaking on The Rangers Review YouTube channel (8 February), Clifford said: “I thought Clement’s comment was really interesting on Sunday.

“I spoke to him about Bailey Rice, and he said, ‘Rice has a lot to learn off the ball’ and about the importance of not floating around in games. That’s really interesting because I picked up on that.

“I’m not in any way a footballer or a scout, but with Bailey Rice, I’ve felt like that. He’s excellent on the ball, fantastic on the ball, a really good left foot with an eye to break the lines.

“He’s got vision and talent, but off the ball, can he work harder? Can he be better positionally? If he’s a number six, he needs to be more disciplined in what he’s doing.”

Rangers to ‘command fair fee’ for Cyriel Dessers after recent twist

Cyriel Dessers could potentially be sold for a fair fee in the coming months, Billy Dodds says.

The Scottish manager believes the Light Blues could demand a decent sum for the Nigerian striker after his agent revealed that 10 teams wanted to sign the striker in the previous transfer window.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (7 February), Dodds said: “I think he’s one Rangers player, because you always talk about the finances at the club, who would command a fair fee. I think Rangers were probably sussing out the market, and I know his agent was as well. That’s why the 10 teams came up.”

Galatasaray continue talks for Ridvan Yilmaz

Galatasaray have continued their talks to sign Ridvan Yilmaz in the coming days, according to Arda Ozkurt.

The Taktik Mania journalist revealed on his personal X account (8 February) that the Istanbul club want the left-back on loan from the Bears before the Turkish transfer deadline on 11 February.

However, the Glaswegian outfit want a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy with an asking price of £5million.

Rangers can afford Vaclav Cerny transfer

Vaclav Cerny could possibly be signed by the Glaswegian outfit on a permanent transfer from Wolfsburg, Dan Plumley says.

The Bundesliga outfit want £6.75million the Czech international next summer [Scottish Sun], and the Light Blues may have the finances to pull off a deal.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Plumley said: “I think they can afford it.

“They can stretch to that sort of figure, certainly again from the outside looking in, that would be conceivable that you could see them getting to that sort of fee.

“Do they want to? How much do they see that as an achievable figure?

“Certainly, their current position is going to factor into that, and we know the difference between the Champions League and Europa League and where they are off the pace in the league.

“I think it will depend on the next few months and when that option to possibly buy him kicks in, but they could stretch to that is always the case for a club like Rangers.

“It is an achievable figure, I guess it’s whether or not they want to and it will depend on how the season finishes off for them.”
