Rangers news round-up: Chris Jack drops Ridvan Yilmaz update, £10m claim emerges
Rangers will be looking to end the season in the best manner possible with their January transfer business concluded.
The Ibrox outfit made just one signing in the winter transfer window as they secured the services of Rafael Fernandes from Lille on loan.
With Gers still dominating the headlines off the pitch, Ibrox News has prepared a round-up of the main stories on Friday, 7 February.
Mohamed Diomande’s red card footage has sparked fury
The SFA released audio footage of Mohamed Diomande’s red card against Dundee United and it’s fair to say that it’s not gone down well.
Heart and Hand’s David Edgar is one among many who have been left fuming after hearing the conversation between VAR officials and Nick Walsh.
The VAR officials told Walsh there was nothing to suggest that there was violent conduct and that he should reverse his decision, but he stood by it, to the surprise of many.
Edgar labelled Walsh’s reaction “atrocious” as Gers won their appeal to overturn the decision.
Philippe Clement makes Oscar Cortes revelation
Philippe Clement has admitted that Oscar Cortes has already proven himself worthy of being signed permanently.
Gers have already committed to paying the money for the Colombian winger as his loan deal includes an obligation to buy.
The club will be paying £4million to Lens in the summer to secure his services.
Clement said, per Four Lads Had a Dream: “Yes, Oscar has proven that. So, it’s about us as a club getting him fit again. He’s still a young player. So, for sure he will do that in the future.”
Peter Grant issues £10m transfer admission
Peter Grant believes that while Gers might have a plan to sell players for big money, say £10million for example, they will soon see people stop going to their games if they don’t win trophies.
The Ibrox outfit find themselves 13 points off rivals Celtic in the league and even lost a cup final against them earlier this season.
Grant also issued his verdict on the club not selling Cyriel Dessers in the January transfer window.
“Rangers have got to be built on silverware, that’s what they’ve got to try and be built on, I get that they have a plan for selling players or whatever but they have to be winning trophies,” the BBC Scotland pundit said on the Go Radio Football Show (6 February).
“If they end up getting £10million for somebody or £5million for somebody but win no trophies then you’ll be north of £10million anyway because nobody will be going to your games.
“I don’t care how faithful you are, you have got to see a winning team on the pitch and Rangers have not been that for long enough in the respect of that, consistently winning Championships.
“However, Celtic have been and Celtic are still getting maximum money, well above the likes of £25million for Jota and Matt O’Riley but I still think that if Rangers had sold Dessers without bringing anyone in and Danilo wasn’t available then you’d be thinking that they don’t think the Scottish Cup matters.
“But it’s still a domestic trophy and that’s massive for them.”
Ridvan Yilmaz returns to training after injury blow
Ridvan Yilmaz has returned to training after suffering an injury recently, according to Chris Jack.
The Turkish left-back has endured an injury-ravaged season but he has taken a significant step towards returning to full fitness.

It remains to be seen how long it takes for the Turkish left-back to be ready to start games as he did miss a significant number of games earlier in the season.
