Rangers to cast net wide in search for talent as ‘huge’ scouting claim made
Rangers still have “a lot of work” to do regarding their recruitment despite the success of some transfers this season, Craig Moore has said.
The Gers have had mixed success with the transfers they’ve made this season with the likes of Vaclav Cerny and Hamza Igamane being among the Ibrox outfit’s best players.
However, ex-Gers player, Moore, believes that Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen need to implement a “well-established” network, particularly outside of Scotland, in order to get the best out of their moves.
He did, though, accept it is “huge” for the Gers to maintain a keen eye on talent closer to home to maintain a strong Scottish quota.
“I still think there’s a lot of work to be done in terms of a proper scouting infrastructure,” Rangers great Moore told the Daily Record (6 February).
“I know there’s certainly things that were in place that have been changed. You need to have a strategy, you need to have a plan, you need to have a scouting infrastructure not only at home, which for me is huge because the Scottish quota is important to the football club.
“The Scottish DNA is important to the football club. But you need to really have a well-established network that covers many different areas because there’s a lot of great talent and great opportunities that is a little bit further afield than the UK which is normally a quite expensive market.”
Rangers need to improve their transfer recruitment in the summer
As aforementioned, some of the Gers’ moves this season have paid off with certain players becoming essential to the way that Clement lines his team up.
However, over the last few years, there have been plenty of failed moves that have left the Ibrox outfit out of pocket and with an arguably worse team than what they started with.
If they can’t manage to find a way to improve their recruitment before the summer transfer window, fans will likely be fearful of enduring yet another season in the Scottish Premiership like this one where they’ve been left in the dust by their arch-rivals Celtic.

Granted, they finished in the top eight of the Europa League group stage but it still feels like a lot more could come from Govan, especially if they figured out a way to improve their team with every move they make.
Only time will tell what the future holds but if Koppen and Clement don’t put their heads together to find a way to make things better at Ibrox, they’ll be shooting themselves in the foot.
