Lyall Cameron ‘sticks out like sore thumb’ as Rangers transfer terms agreed
Barry Ferguson believes that Lyall Cameron sticks out like a “sore thumb” at Dundee after his Rangers transfer terms were agreed.
Since the winter transfer window opened, the midfielder was linked with an Ibrox switch in a deal that felt reminiscent of Connor Barron’s in the summer.
Cameron has been the stand-out player for Tony Docherty’s team this term and former Gers skipper Ferguson has praised his former club for making sure the move went through.
“In terms of Lyall Cameron, he seems like a fine young midfielder, I’ve seen him now for a couple of years and every time I’ve watched Dundee, he’s stood out like a sore thumb,” he said on the Go Radio Football Show (5 February).
“I think it’s a good bit of business for Rangers.”
Lyall Cameron could help transform the Rangers midfield
Although the Gers’ midfield has been one of the least affected by the sheer amount of injuries that the Ibrox outfit have suffered this season, it still feels like it could get better.
Philippe Clement lost the likes of John Lundstram and Ryan Jack at the end of last season and although Barron was brought in on a free, it still feels like they could be playing better.
Mohamed Diomande’s move was also made permanent with the Ivorian only really coming into his own over the last few weeks.
Cameron has a fair few qualities that some of Rangers’ midfielders just don’t have at the moment.
For example, he’s very dynamic and solid on the ball and best of all, he has an eye for goal.

While the likes of Nedim Bajrami and Ianis Hagi can score from midfield, it feels like a lot more could come from the likes of Diomande, Barron and Nico Raskin in that regard.
At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess how the move is going to work out but on paper, it seems like a very smart deal.
